I prefer the Creedence version to either Marvin Gaye’s or Gladys Knight’s.

William Hung- Hotel California
William Shatner- Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds
The Beatle Barkers- I Saw Her Standing There

Soft Cell’s Tainted Love - original was by Gloria Jones

I do too.

This might be controversial for some purists but I prefer Big Yellow Taxi by the Counting Crows ft. Vanessa Carlton to the original Joni Mitchell version.

Torn by Natalie Imbruglia 1997 was first recorded in English by Ednaswap 1995 based on a Danish song Lis Sørensen - Brændt (Burnt) 1993.

Agree with this one. Really good cover!

It’s My Life is an interesting one, I like both versions, but the Talk Talk original just has such a beautiful sound.

As for me, I prefer the Naked Eyes version of (There’s) Always Something There to Remind Me to the Sandie Shaw version.

Taylor Swift has created Australian music history with her new album Folklore. Not only did it debut at No.1 on the ARIA albums chart today, every track from the album (16 of them) also appeared inside the top 50 of the ARIA singles chart, including five tracks in the top 10 led by Cardigan which debuted at No.1. According to ARIA, Taylor broke the record for most debuts in one week, previously held by Ed Sheeran and Post Malone, who had 13 each. Post Malone and Michael Jackson hold on to the record for most tracks in the Top 50 in one week with 17 each.

Which is why the singles charts are an absolute joke these days. Utter rubbish for album tracks to be considered singles because people listen to them on streaming services.

Highlights (as we have discussed a million times before ) the disconnect between the charts and listening behaviour.

How do you compile the charts of ‘singles’ when some tracks aren’t designated as singles/artists don’t have singles pre-album but instead make surprise drops etc.

To be honest, I reckon the time has come to retire the top 40 as we know it. It’s served a purpose but music isn’t consumed in a way conducive to mixing different listening parameters (sales, streaming, radio AirPlay etc) into one. Break them out separately.

Agree, and that virtually any song is available as a “single” on ITunes or Google Music - so makes the concept of a “single” redundant.
