Looks like people are starting to get bored with The Block. It drags for way too long and is too bloated with rubbish which is nothing to do with renovations now. I think 9 need to cut it back to shorter episodes and a shorter season next year.

I’ve always thought The Block would work so much better as a fast paced season, say over 4-5 weeks. The auctions and room reveals seem to be what viewers are most interested in, so imagine how much better it could be by condensing and focusing on those elements. They could learn something from MKR, where the home cooking rounds were the core of the show, so shifting the focus back to that (and away from being an extended cooking competition) has given it plenty of new life.

The Block is still getting 1mill+ though so I can’t see 9 making any changes anytime soon.

Meanwhile, Shaun Micallef’s Parents’ Evening’s third episode of the series slipped to 425k on 10 after the second had dropped to 470k.

I don’t think this will be missed too much by the time Big Brother rolls around. As I mentioned in the thread, I am finding the format slow and repetitive after just 3 weeks. I think it would be smart to hold off another half of the season until early next year. It feels like it would fit better on a Thursday.

A surprising win for My Kitchen Rules - against The Block. Maybe this Monday and Tuesday airing (no Sunday edition) is working in their favour afterall?

The season final of Have You Been Paying Attention did well for 10 too.

at least 1.4m+ MKR on a sunday

Block would have still had their 1.3/1.4mill viewers.

Monday MKR got 1.3mill & a 260k win. That’s a significant win & it wouldn’t have happened on Sunday when it’s against the Reveal episode.

All hypothetical. But what’s for certain is that they squandered their lead by putting Celeb Intervention at 7pm.

MKR would have been a better performer, at least as good as it rated Monday, if not better.

Wasted opportunity.

That would have meant MKR in the first 3 weeks would have had different timeslots/days (W1 Mon/Tues, W2 Mon/Tues/Wed and W3 Sun/Mon). It would of also meant the Spotlight 2 hour special would of started closer to 9 and ended close to 11 instead. CI wouldn’t have got close to the rating it got on Sunday if it was shown on Tuesday instead.

And most importantly, that impacted the potential reach for Spotlight.

If they were never going to run MKR on Sunday after Bathurst, they should’ve just put the 70 Years special and 7pm and see how it went. I think it would’ve done well, maybe closer to the 1m mark. Certainly better retention and reach than Mick Molloy & Co had, noting how both ended up rating too.

And then could’ve tried Mick Molloy after 9pm or put on something else as filler.

Possibly. But Today has been weak for a while. What is interesting is that Seven News hasn’t picked up those viewers whatsoever it would seem.
