No I know, and i didn’t mean Hotseat only, but any gameshow format they go with, they would need to be consistent in where they leave the cliffhangers for a nightly show thats not necessarily a follow on episode next time it airs. At the same time the ratings are fairly low for the gameshow slots I can’t imagine a cliffhanger would save them.
To me, 10 is trying to sell a format that has already been sold—successfully—multiple times by a rival. The only angle they seem to be pushing is overhyping Gibney as the host, because frankly, they have nothing else to entice viewers. There is nothing that’s genuinely new about the show itself. It isn’t innovative or refreshed in any meaningful way; it’s simply a transplanted format we’ve already seen before.
I would have loved for 10 to have a game show with a carry over champ. I guess its possible if 10 are willing to spend money. If 10 had at least one more half hour game show or even 2, even as a short run fill in to try to avoid viewer fatigue.
If 10 were to bring back Family Feud Australia, they could try it with anyone BUT Grant Denyer. Add in another game show (Wheel Of Fortune, The Price Is Right or even Sale Of The Century), then 10 could screen new game shows all year round. I know it wont happen this year given the number of episodes produced for MHS, but a 50:50 split would be ok and if one fails, there’s another that could be relied upon.
Also gives another option if 10 News+ is ever axed.
Sorry probably more mock schedules territory. Rant over
that’s usually the case with most game show franchises that move around the networks. e.g. the Larry Emdur version(s) of The Price Is Right were really just the same as the Ian Turpie versions and the 1970s version just with different hosts. Temptation was really just a repackage of Sale Of The Century which was a revival of the original Temptation, and so on…
Sometimes the host is really the only point of difference, and I think Ten have done well with Rebecca Gibney. She is not polarising like Eddie McGuire was.
I never watched Millionaire Hot Seat on Nine because it was on too early, but the later timeslot has allowed me to sample it on Ten and TBH I don’t mind it. It’s an easy watch before heading onto later viewing options.
200 episodes have been filmed for Hot Seat. Which is take us to the first week of November - if five new episodes are aired a week, without airing repeats or having a break. But we know that there will be repeats on Fridays “soon”, which will extend the show even longer.
The show isn’t going anywhere.
But if Deal sinks in an even bigger hole, i just hope that Hot Seat doesn’t air double episodes from 6.30 in the future. And dilute the show more.
That is another reason 10 should have back ups like the ones I suggested - I would look at making sure I didnt repeat episodes in prime time - think of why Sale Of The Century was so successful post 6pm. Nine had alternative Summer fillers such as Keynotes and Pot Of Gold.
Whether 10 will have 2 or 3 game shows between 6pm and 7:30pm, time will tell.
The whole family is invited to a Disney Cruise if Sheree wins big in this episode! Her rivals include teacher Lauren, performer Nick and thrill seeker Lisa.
Tuesday
A comedian, a grand-slam tennis umpire and a prankster paramedic are amongst the six hopefuls from Victoria and New South Wales taking on the hot seat in this episode.
Wednesday
Aspiring actor Jordyn dreams of travelling to Croatia to visit her family. She takes to the hot seat alongside Broadway lover Sharon and performer Damien.
Thursday
Naomi dreams of winning one million dollars so she can have her very own beehive. Battling it out alongside her is Strongman competitor Jacob and piano bar entertainer Jamie.
Friday
Pickleball players and poker dealers compete for the one million dollars in this episode. If biomedical engineer Kieran wins, he dreams of using the money to make a movie.
The first episode filmed was shown tonight. The final question was the one that featured in the promos in December and January - the $20,000 question about the colloquial term for a barrister.
An easy final law question for a law student on episode 1, seems suspect. Like the time Sandra Sully “randomly” had case 10 with $100k in it on that Deal or No Deal special.
