Metro Radio Ratings - Survey 7, 2025

It’s perhaps the smartest thing Kyle has ever said that he isn’t worth the salary he’s being paid. Hopefully for the people of Melbourne he keeps to his word of pulling the show if the ratings didn’t improve by the end of the year.

It’s also quite sad to see what’s happened at 2Day breakfast. Nothing they’ve tried has worked (but some of the stuff they have done is weird to say the least).

SCA needs to have a good hard look at their Sydney stations

Afternoons with Toni Tenaglia on Gold in Sydney is now number 2 in the latest ratings.

Greg is delusional, Brisbane and Perth are clunking along within the depths of the long term average of poor performance they’ve suffered for years now.

…management and board who facilitate the poor results at their stations in Australia’s largest market.

Fix Sydney and the bottom line of SCA would be significantly improved.

2DayFM breakfast is at 2.9%.

Both listeners are enjoying the show.

2DayFM - Sydney’s SEN Hit Radio Station

SCA Response: “We are happy with the new sound of 2DayFM and the focus of playing the hits before they hit. We always knew there would be some chrurn of listeners and we were planning for the breakfast show to reach a low of 0.1% before it would start building its audience. We think we are on track and that by 2032 Sydney’s 2DayFM will be competitive in the all important Sydney market. SCA has been singulalry focused for the last 14 years of returning 2DayFM to the top of the ratings and whilst we will tweak the music as we head into summer we think we have the right mix of songs to take us forward in 2026”

And yet KIIS continue to broadcast these two into Melbourne next year. The largest radio market does not wan them. Just pull the pin and run local news with music into this market. Similar to Smooth FM.

Time to rebrand it HEART and use it to anchor the network for DAB elsewhere.

Females 25-59, keep Tommy and Carrie and ditch the rest.

Shock surge for sacked 4BC host Peter Fegan as Nova still holds Brisbane breakfast crown

Former 4BC breakfast host Peter Fegan has delivered a surprise final ratings surge, growing his audience by 1.2 percentage points in his last on-air result, just weeks after being abruptly dumped from the station.

Fegan’s unexpected rebound comes as Nova 106.9 once again claimed the top spot in Brisbane’s fiercely contested breakfast wars, leading the penultimate GfK Radio 360 ratings survey of 2025.

Nova’s reinforced its dominance in what insiders are calling the “last survey of an era”.

Despite slipping slightly since their October high, Ash Bradnam, David ‘Luttsy’ Lutteral and Nikki Osborne remained Brisbane’s top-rated breakfast trio for a second consecutive survey.

The real shock came from Classic Hits 4BH which, for the first time in history, outranked B105 overall.

The station posted a 10.8 per cent share, leapfrogging the commercial heavyweight on 10.5 per cent and finishing ahead of KIIS 97.3 on 10 per cent.

Comprehensive story from CM. Will we get anything from Seven News for this survey given the network’s interest in radio?

From that article:

While not confirmed, there is mounting speculation of a behind-the-scenes shift at Nova, with Nick “Ducko” Allen-Ducat - who recently resigned from Newcastle’s Hit Network - linked to a return to Nova Brisbane. Industry whispers suggest he could join or replace a member of the top-rated Ash, Luttsy & Nikki team.
[…]
Nova Group programming director Brendan Taylor said. “It’s a very impressive win for the team and a great way to acknowledge the year that Ash, Luttsy and Nikki have had.”

You would think that the continued triumph of ALN means he would immediately shot down every rumor of a BTS change. The fact he didn’t is telling.

Why is the “Axe Factor” that dominant in this survey?

On air for seven out of ten weeks of this survey. 4.8% within usual cellar dwelling average. Cume rose only 4000 at breakfast, zero streaming 4BC at any time 40-54 and still hugely skewing old for 65+

Is it true or did you read it in the Courier-Mail rings true.

I smell a rat, the paper is sympathetic to Fegan as News may offer him a summer gig on Sky or for their titles.

They’ve got to be making a play for Mel Tracina in breakfast.

Stupid question time - do the stations get ratings prior to their announcement?

Wondering in context of some of the news of the last few days

0830 that morning.

Most stations have tracking which is fairly accurate.

Yes, I recall how last year WSFM announced on air they were #1 in the latest survey prior to the 9.30am official release time.

He’s on Weekend Sunrise every single Saturday after 7:30am too, he does get a bit ‘same same’, which they’d rotate (same for Mark Riley’s wife)

ABC Strengthens Lead in Digital Live Streaming

ABC has once again cemented its position as Australia’s number one digital live streaming network, increasing its margin of dominance in GfK Survey 7. Since digital live streaming became a standalone GfK metric in 2023, ABC has consistently held the top spot for 21 consecutive surveys — and this latest survey marks its strongest performance of the year.

ABC’s share has risen to 28.8%, up 2.8% from the previous survey and our highest share result ever. This was driven by a +17.6% year‑on‑year lift in streaming reach and underscores ABC’s continued leadership in digital audio and its ability to connect audiences across platforms.

“I’m delighted to see ABC not only maintain our number one position in digital live streaming, but also achieve our highest share of the year,” said Ben Latimer, ABC Director Audio.

“These results demonstrate the ABC leading the way in engaging audiences on digital platforms.”

The momentum was further boosted by the opening Ashes Test, which delivered record streaming figures. On Friday 21 November, ABC Sport recorded 249,000 stream starts (live and on demand), with 186,000 stream starts on Saturday, 22 November — a +554% uplift on the 2025 daily average. With a packed summer of cricket ahead, ABC expects strong growth in live streaming audiences to continue.

Outside our live streaming, ABC’s overall network performance also showed impressive gains across the year to wrap up the last survey before the new year:

  • Network share is up +0.8 points year on year
  • Overall reach is up +10.3% year on year, reaching 4.769 million listeners weekly across the 5 capital cities
  • Radio National is up +6.4% to 512,000
  • News Radio is up +22% to 911,000
  • triple j has seen enormous growth in their 50th year up +18% year on year to reach 1.81 million
  • ABC Classic had their highest reach of the year this survey with 801,000 and an increase of +19.6% year on year

These results highlight ABC’s sustained growth across the year, with audience growth across our broadcast and digital offering.
