IIRC opener looks similar to Sydney Weekender titles.

Surprised they don’t just call it Queensland Weekender

The Melbourne Weekender website has been reestablished: https://melbourneweekender.com.au/

The segments can be seen on the website or via YouTube.

The first episode will be available for catch up on 7plus later tonight for viewers outside Victoria and Tasmania.

Interestingly no encore has been scheduled for 7two during the week, like other weekend travel shows.

Production wise, it’s not a bad little show.

It will be interesting to see how it goes up against Postcards.

Typo? Or is there something wrong with it?

Gary, perhaps unsurprisingly, was a natural, like his ‘host’ role from S2 on MC and closed the show, knows his craft (food). Sonia is warming and also TV savvy. As for the others, meh. It doesn’t strike you as a mover and shaker show for its timeslot. I don’t think Postcards is in trouble, especially its loyal viewers. However, it’s a time of day when people get home and flick through channels, might appear as a refreshing alternative or those Channel 7 regulars or Seven News viewers and catch the lead-in.

Buckley is a class act. She use to do Postcards.

It might be because Weekender also features a lot of stories about events and destinations outside Queensland. Looked back at the 7plus archive and I’ve seen stories about Canberra, Northern Territory and South Australia.

Apparently there has also been some Canberra stories on Sydney Weekender (with 7 Regional presenter Daniel Gibson), so they may be reused from there.

I presume some of the SA stories are reused from the old SA Weekender program, or from the Discover with RAA Travel show (which also covers international and interstate destinations and events).

Yes, a few of the presenters appear on the different versions of the show. Mel Symons seems to be on both Sydney Weekender and Weekender, all the time.

It used to be called Queensland Weekender before it was axed.

Yes. I realise that. But when they relaunched it, maybe because it had more than just the Queensland stories, someone thought that was a better title. I agree with those that think that Queensland Weekender would still be a better name for the show, whatever the content.

Is it worth Seven just rebranding all their local lifestyles shows to the following?

Sydney Weekender
Melbourne Weekender
Queensland Weekender
SA Weekender (or Adelaide Weekender)
WA Weekender (or Perth Weekender)

That’s how it once was. We currently have:
Sydney Weekender
Melbourne Weekender
Weekender
WA Weekender

What does SA have now? South Aussie with Cosi?

SA has South Aussie with Cosi on Sundays at 5:30pm

For the past two years, there’s also been a show called Discover with RAA Travel. It incorporates some local packages (presented by some of the previous SA Weekender presenters), and some international and interstate travel destinations (usually featuring an RAA Travel ad at the end of each package). No word if it’s returning this year though.

Prior to 2019, there was SA Weekender (which had replaced SA Life in 2016, which had replaced the local Discover show), however, it was axed as part of budget cuts in at the end of 2019. It returned for a few weeks along with the local 5pm ‘Early Edition’ bulletin (still on air) in 2021, presumably as Nine had started to win on some weekends. However, it soon vanished, and the next year South Aussie with Cosi moved to Seven.

I presume that the RAA Travel show is/was part of some deal with RAA, as well as to give Kelly Golding and the other SA Weekender presenters something to do, or to try and prevent them from jumping the ship to Nine.

Personally I think Seven should bring back SA Weekender, since it was a good little show to watch on a Sunday after the footy. Plus Cosi is a bit of a polarising personality here in SA.

Hasn’t been on air since 2017 according to 7Plus. Border Security is listed for tomorrow at 5:30pm.

No show for the next two Sundays due to live AFL (Port Adelaide v Hawthorn and Melbourne v St Kilda), but it will return on June 2.
