Major IT outage - Cloud Strike (19 July 2024)

Thankfully it seems like it’s missed NZ’s media companies as of now, although retail and banking have also been heavily affected here (Woolworths, Kiwibank, ASB and Jetstar among some of the larger names, Air NZ is confirmed to not be affected).

Parliament systems including phone lines are also down according to Stuff.

National 10 News First bulletin tonight. As seen via 10 Coffs Harbour

No captions for 10’s bulletin; at least they got to air, that must have been in doubt. That versatile set has proved itself again.

I hope they can do something before 6pm. It would be very bad if they went all Melbourne nationally at 6pm. Instant turn off for the rest of the country.

Haven’t seen the fix but I’ve heard from someone working on it that any computers with Bitlocker enabled can’t do it as yet and that it is a manual thing needing to be done physically at the computer or server unless you have some level of a hypervisor access or BIOS level access to things.

But luckily Mediaspy is up and running

3AW still on air but affecting their phones and internal systems

Have to say in moments like this Sandra is a real asset.

Can’t imagine Peter Mitchell being able to do this… I guess we will find out hahah

Luckily for Seven News this outage was forecast by their resident astrologer yesterday so they were totally prepared

Major problems with television and radio, which is huge.

For places that have gone cashless, this is why there should be a backup for cash transactions… for this reason alone.

TripleJ and several other stations are playing from emergency tapes and CD’s :joy:

3AW now also reporting that tonight’s AFL match could be affected for scanning in, paying for food.

Not sure why they couldn’t have just had them at the desk? Would look a lot more normal than sitting on a banged up couch.

Watching Adelaide news on Seven and Nine. Seven seems to be completely fine, Nine on the other hand have their old logo on the top left hand corner of the screen, no graphics or sound effects. Kate Collins presenting with a laptop out of shot (but still somewhat visible).

Adelaide looks fine to me re logo?

If it is affecting POS systems, it would not matter if they have cash or card.
