And on Seven
Really? Her son died mere days ago and sheās out being interviewed by anyone with a microphone and camera. Is this lady serious? Getting real inauthentic vibes here. Not something I would be doing after such a horrific experience and loss.
Iām not seeing this sort of thing on CBS. Reporters on the ground have been quite respectful, even jumping in to help get a womenās chickens!
To be fair, all the Australian outlets would want an interview with her because her son is the only Australian casualty. Once one gets the āexclusiveā, we all know what the rest are like.
In the interview I saw this morning, she thanked Sunrise for letting her share her story about the struggles of her son and how he fought through life. The media is also a good outlet sometimes for these victims to voice their frustrations with the lack of help they feel they received etc.
My issue isnāt with the Australian media as I totally get theyād want an interview, my issue is with the mother. It just feels to me like sheās after her 15 minutes of fame when her son literally just died in quite a horrific way.
Disappointing
Worth mentioning that Sydney bulletins are the only one to consistently (for at least 3 days) put the LA fires number one - both Seven and Nine.
Other markets like Melbourne and Brisbane put one or two local stories first, including 10. It was 4th story on 7 and 9 Melbourne tonight.
Everyone grieves differently - and everyone responds to media requests differently in the wake of deaths - some want nothing to do with it and some do it as a way to talk through their feelings and remember their loved one.
She has a media background (and so did her son) so probably confident to talk on camera despite the circumstances.
Regardless, Iām not sure Iād describe anyone who had just had a loved one die as giving off āreal inauthentic vibesā
Thatās fine, but I am.
I just donāt think itās something I would be able to do so soon after such an event.
Maybe a quick comment but not multiple sit down interviews with many different outlets. It just feels off.
Itās just my personal opinion.
As the only journalist for the network in LA Katherine Firkin doing a great job on the ground and embedding herself with a fire crew and doing some good first person reporting and not just reading a script over cbs footage. Her reports often includes 2-3 pieces to camera.
Iām surprised they didnāt send someone else over given the duration of these fires.
They probably thought CBS would deliver more crosses for them. But given they sent Amelia Simpsons to Japan late last year - Iām surprised.
Amelia Simpson
Yep. I swear I wrote that Iām going back to bed.
