The diverse group of homebakers who will be kneeding and mixing their way through the highly anticipated second season of THE GREAT AUSTRALIAN BAKE OFF have been announced ahead of the series launching on Tuesday, October 11 at 8.30pm on LifeStyle FOOD.

Judged by culinary icon Maggie Beer and acclaimed chef Matt Moran, and hosted by comedians Claire Hooper and Mel Buttle, season two will see 12 new bakers put through a series of mouth-watering challenges to find Australia’s Best Amateur Baker.

The bakers are: Jeremy Allan (30, Welding and Vessel Inspector from Adelaide, SA); Janette Betts (62, Palliative Care Nurse from Melbourne, VIC); Noel Button (59, Retired Teacher from Launceston, Tasmania); Monica Cavallaro (43, Retail Manager from Sydney, NSW); Diana Gyllen (29, Model from Sydney, NSW); Antonio Marcora (16, School Student from Sydney, NSW); Olivia McMahon (37, Fine Dining Waitress from Brisbane, QLD); Liesel Morgan (20, University Student from Perth, WA); Fiona Nguyen (32, Patent and Trademark Lawyer from Brisbane, QLD); Bojan Petrovic (37, Tow Truck Business Owner from Canberra, ACT); Cheryl Roberts (59, Horse Trainer from Berry, NSW); and James Rudd (26, IT Technical Support from Perth, WA).

Over the ten episodes, these bakers will create a series of decadent treats that will leave viewers in food heaven, including retro deserts like Bombe Alaska, extravagant world landmarks made from biscuit, and burgers where the bun is everything.

Each week begins with the Signature Bake, where each competitor has a personal take on a familiar recipe. Next comes the Technical Bake, a surprise recipe from either Matt or Maggie. And the last challenge is the Showstopper, where the bakers attempt to wow the judges with their skills and artistry.

The baker that wins the judges tastebuds after all 30 challenges will be crowned Australia’s Best Amateur Baker.

Final three revealed on THE GREAT AUSTRALIAN BAKE OFF

Grand Finale airs Tuesday 13 December at 8.30pm AEDT

The final three bakers who have made it through to the grand finale of THE GREAT AUSTRALIAN BAKE OFF were revealed during tonight’s penultimate episode of the mouth-watering Lifestyle FOOD series.

Antonio Marcora, 17 from Sydney; Monica Cavallaro, 44 from Sydney; and Olivia McMahon, 37 from Brisbane are the three bakers who will battle it out for baking supremacy during next week’s final episode, airing Tuesday December 13 at 8.30pm on Lifestyle FOOD.

THE GREAT AUSTRALIAN BAKE OFF started nine weeks ago with 12 passionate home bakers stepping into the iconic Bake Off Shed, hoping they had the right ingredients to go all the way. Each week, judges Maggie Beer and Matt Moran farewelled one baker until just three were left – Antonio, Monica and Olivia.

Despite being just 16 years old during filming, Antonio’s flair for flavour has seen him win Star Baker twice; while Monica’s inventive and daring showstoppers, and Olivia’s imaginative designs, have seen them both crowned Star Baker three times each.

During the final episode, these three bakers take it to the next level with a Signature of the classic French Opera Cake, an incredibly tricky Technical challenge of 12 identical Candied Orange and Ricotta Sfogliatelles, and finally a Showstopper that must be a tiered masterpiece.

The finale features a special guest appearance by delicious. Editor-in-chief Kerrie McCallum – as well as earning the title of Australia’s Best Amateur Baker, the winner will appear on the cover of delicious. magazine’s March 2017 issue.

Olivia McMahon wins THE GREAT AUSTRALIAN BAKE OFF 2016

Olivia McMahon has risen to the occasion to be crowned Australia’s Best Amateur Baker after winning over judges Maggie Beer and Matt Moran in tonight’s final episode of THE GREAT AUSTRALIAN BAKE OFF.

The 37-year-old waitress from Brisbane proved too strong for her competition, pulling out all stops in the final Showstopper challenge when she baked an extravagant, three-tiered pina colada cake flavoured with lime, pineapple and raspberry.

She beat Monica Cavallaro, 44 from Sydney, who created an ode to Italy with a masterpiece featuring three different layers, each representing a different region of Italy; and Antonio Marcora, 17 also from Sydney, who whipped up a brownie extravaganza featuring three different flavours of ganache.

After her win, Olivia said: “I can’t believe I’ve won, especially when I was up against such stiff competition from Antonio and Monica. My goal when I started was just to make it past week one, so to win is an absolute dream come true.

“The whole experience has been amazing and I have learnt so much, not only from Matt and Maggie, but from all the bakers too, and I’m looking forward to putting these new skills to use. Since filming ended I have set up my own cake making business, Olivia’s Sweet Nothings, so I plan on building that up, and am also hoping to travel to Paris to study all things chocolate,” she said.

As well as earning the title of Australia’s Best Amateur Baker, Olivia’s Custard Kisses recipe will be featured in delicious. magazine’s March 2017 issue.

Tapping in to the growing popularity of Korean food, JOHN TORODE’S KOREAN FOOD TOUR follows the UK based MasterChef judge as he jets off on one of his culinary travels to tackle a whole new territory and range of dishes.

Throughout the series John works his way through some of the nation’s top 100 dishes and then creates his own version of a Korean classic with a modern twist.

For the uninitiated, South Korea is a beautiful assault on the senses and one that John relishes in the series. From Buddhist temples to the extraordinary craze for Mokbang (celebrities filming and broadcasting themselves eating), there’s a huge amount to see, do and eat.

Immersing himself in both traditional and modern Korea, John travels around South Korea, going into people’s homes and kitchens, enjoying the wealth and high tech splendour of Seoul to the tiny rural outposts deep in the mountains and the beach resort of Busan in the South.

From traditional Tofu makers, to the extraordinary quantities of Kimchi made every autumn for Korean store cupboards, to the Korean version of glamping with delicious barbecue food, as well as the Buddhist monks who make barugongyang for their guests, the series is a gastronomic feast, not just for John but for viewers as well.

John Torode is a hugely popular and influential figure on the UK culinary circuit, best known as the straight-talking co-host and judge of twelve seasons of BBC1’s MasterChef, Celebrity MasterChef and Junior MasterChef. Australian by birth, John is credited as one of the main players in introducing Australasian food to the UK in the mid-1990s.

John is also well known to Australian audiences, with John Torode Australia and John Torode’s Malaysian Adventure having previously aired on Lifestyle FOOD. His latest adventure, JOHN TORODE’S KOREAN FOOD TOUR, premieres Wednesday, April 26 at 8.30pm on Lifestyle FOOD.

Rick Stein’s Road to Mexico

From Monday 12 February at 8.30pm AEDT

image

One of the world’s best-loved chefs and restaurateurs, Rick Stein, returns to Lifestyle FOOD on February 12 at 8.30pm AEDT as he takes on an exciting new journey in Rick Stein’s Road to Mexico.

In this brand new 7 x 60 minute series, Rick brings his unrivalled enthusiasm and trusted expertise to the fresh, flavoursome food of California and Mexico.

Exploring the food and culture from Northern California, to Baja and Mexico, Rick Stein’s Road to Mexico is inspired by a trip he made in the late 1960s: it was 1968, and having heard The Mamas and the Papas’ “California Dreaming”, Rick was filled with a desire to embark on his own road trip down the Pacific Coast Highway to the Mexican Border and beyond.

Nearly 50 years later, Rick is back to retrace his steps, travelling from San Francisco down to the southernmost tip of Mexico, as he cooks, eats and experiences the region’s food at its very best and most diverse.

Whether it’s the farmer’s markets of California, full of sourdough bread, new season garlic and a profusion of citrus fruit; the prawns, snapper and tuna of the Pacific or the glorious street food and colourful markets of Mexico with their avocados, chillies, cheese and corn, this is part of the world packed with natural, healthy and satisfying ingredients.

In episode one, Rick enjoys sitting on the dock of the bay in San Francisco, tasting legendary dishes like the hangtown fry oyster pancake, a dish that can trace its origins to the California gold rush, which created the most famous Chinatown in the world. San Francisco is also the place where Rick got his very first taste of Mexican food all those years ago.

Rick Stein’s Road to Mexico is classic Rick Stein: vibrant dishes, expert travel tips and a dash of art and culture thrown in for good measure.

Following its live broadcast on Lifestyle FOOD, Rick Stein’s Road to Mexico will be available to watch from Foxtel’s on demand library, or streamed on demand on Foxtel’s streaming service, Foxtel Now.

Field Trip with Curtis Stone

Sundays at 8pm from February 7

image

Field Trip with Curtis Stone , premieres Sundays at 8pm February 7 on Foxtel’s LifeStyle FOOD and is available On Demand on FOXTEL . The six-part series follows Australian born, Los Angeles based Curtis Stone, a Michelin-starred chef, restaurateur, author and culinary entrepreneur and his talented team from Maude, as they travel the world seeking inspiration for the regional tasting menus at the Michelin-starred, 24-seat restaurant in Los Angeles.

Each episode showcases the journey to one specific region, highlighting the artisans, farmers, wine producers and topography of the area, while offering viewers a behind-the-scenes look at how the acclaimed chef conducts research for Maude’s menu and award-winning wine program. Shot by Curtis’ friend and cinematographer Dave Gorn, Curtis and his team travel to Australia, Italy, Spain and California.

The premiere episode follows their trip to the Margaret River in Australia’s southwest corner, known for its surfing, vineyards, farmlands and burgeoning culinary scene. Curtis searches for inspiration in the vineyards, countryside and shore of this region and meets with a rancher raising grass-fed Shorthorn cattle; fishes for marron, a large freshwater crayfish; visits winemaker Vanya Cullen’s biodynamic vineyard; and forages for coastal herbs with local chef Paul “Yoda” Iskov.

In subsequent episodes, Curtis traverses Lombardy & Umbria in Italy, California’s Central Coast, The Kimberley in Australia where he is educated by an Aboriginal elder on ancient fishing methods, and herds cattle with a fifth generation female rancher and travels to Rioja in Spain, with each journey communing with purveyors, ranchers, chefs and local experts to experience and taste the soul of each destination.

Curtis reveals how those experiences inform the direction and dishes within Maude’s quarterly menus. “The process of filming Field Trip was deeply personal for me. Maude was my first solo restaurant — my little dream restaurant — and our new quarterly regional menus have allowed us to tell the story of these incredible places around the world. It’s been humbling to showcase the passion of these farmers and producers through the food and wine we’re serving at Maude. With Field Trip, we’re fortunate to now also be able to share these stories with a larger audience,” says Curtis of the series.

Curtis began cooking at the Savoy Hotel’s five-star restaurant in his hometown of Melbourne, Australia at the age of 18. He moved to Europe when he was 21 to further his education and classical training under renowned chef Marco Pierre White for eight years, a foundation that would inform his subsequent career in Los Angeles. In 2014, Curtis opened his first solo restaurant, Maude (Beverly Hills, CA), to immediate acclaim. Following the success of Maude, Curtis opened Gwen Butcher Shop & Restaurant (Hollywood, CA) in July 2016 with his brother Luke Stone. The brothers open their second restaurant together, Georgie, modelled after Gwen, with restauranteur Stephan Courseau in Dallas, Texas in fall 2019.
