I thought he took a job in Melbourne, or have I got this wrong? They certainly gave him the good ol’ Summer Bay farewell on his final episode so I just assumed he’d gone.

Probably another recording from 2018 like tonight’s version.
The theme sounds as if the show had Hawaiian or a Maori spin off.

Thought that might be the case - use it on the nights when they have triple or double episodes where they have more time to play around with

A shame they’ve stuck with that awful version of the theme and put very little effort into the titles - feels more like promo shots than a title sequence. The cynic in me suggests minimal effort so there is little complaint when it’s dropped.

They couldn’t, like, get an orchestra to record it? They could have done a nice, baroque pop arrangement that would have evoked the original version.

I didn’t realise, according to TVT this morning, that the H&A opening titles hadn’t been seen since 2008. I knew it was a very long time, but thought they went for a few more years than that.
I wonder if it was poor reception for the 2007 re-vamped titles and theme? Either vibe, complaints or they eventually just realised themselves that it was terrible compared to 2004 - 2006’s (even worse IMO than some of the more recent shorter choruses) and decided to not continue with them.
Back when I used to watch H&A, I can remember the night that new one launched and it was just awful:
