Are you saying you recommend they upgrade?
The lower thirds are better, but still bad.
Overall I really like the show. But it feels very cheap.
The graphics are terrible. I think the issue is lack of TV production engineering at NZME and they are using the same video systems as their radio studios, which also look like shite.
There are still issues across the board that haven’t been fixed since day one.
- The ticker scroll glitches or jolts every couple of seconds. I also don’t think anyone is actively maintaining it. For example, yesterday it continued displaying a headline about a missing boy throughout the entire live show, even though he had already been found (and was alerted on the Herald app).
- Too much extra space behind the name and location baselines! The sizing of the live/location one needs to be reduced. And get rid of the extra Herald Now watermark! It clutters the screen.
- Niva’s camera is out of focus - and they repeat the same pre-recorded news every 30 mins. What about breaking news?
- The MetService weather is the same pre-recorded updated - very noticeable today as the presenter was wearing gloves (surely the MetService studio has heating?)
Hopefully in the long run, and with viewer numbers to support the show continuing, NZME will invest in a broadcast graphics designer and engineers, and get a dedicated live newsreader.
I also dislike that both morning news programmes have black tickers - though probably more on brand for the Herald.
Probably wearing gloves and beanie as tongue in cheek; coldest morning of the year. Lol
Yes I thought it was cheesy.
