Shoddy switching after The Drum.

As for ātraditional tv being deadā remember that broadcast FTA TV viewing still accounts for around 75% of all television viewing in Australia - and that includes streaming.
At any given time in prime time around 5 million Australians are watching linear broadcast TV - and Around 200k are streaming. Those types of figures have been reported a few times.
I wasnāt going to set up an account for MS, but this ABC HD launch has me laughing.
Iād like to think that Iām understanding when it comes to Australia being a bit behind the times, but this is a joke.
There hasnāt been a single HD thing transmitted so far. No programmes, no promos, not even the little logo in the corner. Even the ads which promote the HD service arenāt HD.
Just imagine if back in 1975 if the ABC started colour transmissions without transmitting anything in colour. You wouldnāt take it remotely seriously.
We can only hope that this is something that will be fixed later tonight, but Iām slightly worried that it wonāt be.
As for Murder, She Wrote, they are showing it on SVT in Sweden and it looks like it might be a HD scan of the film (the SVT Play link can be seen outside of sweden).
I sometimes watch UHD or 4K video on Youtube with only my 1080P monitor.
As well as that, 8K is also a thing on Youtube!
At least we donāt have TV licencing and detector vans

ABC HD FAQās says āour news services are not in HD.ā[/quote]
Thatās unfortunate. Even Bargain Hunt on Lifestyle is in HD.
Just had a look on VAST for ABC HD. Theyāre not simulcasting! All the SD versions of ABC replaced with ABC HD, which means channel 2 and 21 point to ABC HD. Brilliant move. Now SBS needs to do the same.
Edit: SBS had already begun by removing SBS Tasmania (SD) when they launched Food Network. So I guess itās on the agenda?
Geez give them a break Itās only the first day, let them have some time to get it all working properly. Maybe the first few days is just to ensure everything is properly working. Be patient
Yes, Africa and the South Pacific. Itās fantastic that television broadcasting in this country is in the same league as those countries.
I think I read the exact same comment on the Ten HD page once upon a time.
Not holding my breath that NYE will be in native HD as promised.
Maybe thatās why they made such a big deal about it. Maybe itāll be the only thing weāll see in HD.
And this story states that in France all 25 free-to-air television channels have been available in HD from April this year.
Australia will probably see all 23 (including datacasts, based on the current status in the Sydney market) free to air channels running in HDā¦in approximately 2036.
The ballsed-up digital TV rollout here in Australia is actually a good reason to argue against rolling out new technologies (e.g. 4K) too quickly.
We decided to roll out digital TV with high definition made mandatory, YEARS before many other countries did. Weāre the only country in the world using the DVB-T standard that mandated MPEG-2 HD. Everyone else just focused on multichannels.
And look at what happened. The networks abandoned HD en-masse because the public ended up caring more about multichannels than picture quality (due to cost of HD sets between 2001 and 2009), and now weāre back to square one!
While Iād like to see 4K rolled out, it just isnāt going to happen any time soon. I think the networks would start streaming 4K over the NBN (using multicasting and special Fetch-style set top boxes) before any kind of new terrestrial services are rolled out, due to the sheer inflexibility of the TV standards.
I am laughing at hte immeidate reaction to the fact itās only the first day and your crying becuase nothing on ABC is in HD yet! Come on. Seriously, there are more issues to cry over
Itās only been what a day! Seriously give it time.
@Bluejays1985 - when you say āgive it timeā you know itās been 9 months in the planning right?
You do realize this is like an AM radio station announcing in march it is going FM - then on December 6 it starts broadcasting on FM bandwidth - but1 00% of the music is played AM. And you would say āgive them timeā?
What is the last 9 months then?
Also Iām guessing you donāt have an HD TV, or watch Foxtel HD or 9HD and donāt really appreciate HD - if you donāt care of the picture quality of what you watch - then yea, not a big deal I guess.
ABCās Facebook page is littered with comments from the general public saying - ah - nothing is in HD, no shows, no ads, no logo - nothing. It looks like SD - what gives ABC?
Go read the comments
I donāt think itās unreasonable to question why go to the hassle to launch an HD channel but have zero HD content. As others have said ABC announced this change months agoā¦ at least something should be in HD from day one. Otherwise whatās the pointā¦ they might as well have just stayed put as SD.
Itās not as if HD is cutting edge technology.
Particularly as it launched on a Tuesday - where they would have had more ability to schedule HD programs, unlike their news heavy Monday schedule.
Not having even their own graphics in HD is particularly poor.
They launched and promoted a HD channel - it is not unreasonable to expect some HD programming. Otherwise, why spend the money?
