HBO Max (formerly Max)

So no local content announcement? Cheap as. At least Binge put their money where their mouth is.

It’s literally the first day…

Yes, exactly. You show your commitment to local content on the first day as part of your launch campaign….

Ehhh. Not everyone is going to go the same why about it.

Was reported this was not the case, nothing new there.

This from a week ago.

The biggest thing missing from the Max catalogue are any new Australian commissions. “Max will have local content, but not straight away,” Mr Brooks said. “First we want to really understand the viewing behaviour of our audience and then tailor local commissions.”

One thing I have to immediately praise is the app itself. On smart TVs it works flawlessly. Doesn’t suffer the same issues as all other apps (notably Stan, Paramount and Binge) where you click into a show to view its description and then clicking back on your remote resets your position searching for a show/movie, so you have to scroll through it all again to get to where you were.

Pretty impressed with the content at launch has all the shows I want to watch. White Lotus streaming in much better quality then it does on Binge. Based on info released by HBO today there is over 500,000 hours of content.

I’ve noticed this too. Binge quality for shows that air in any of the channels are lower quality on catch-up.

I’ve subscribed for the year. Pretty good value for money with the introductory offer. I always subscribe for services without ads so at $9.99 for 12 months it’s decent.

The app works well. Much better than most. On par with prime although not as good as Netflix.

Was expecting to see a trial offer, but with content from discovery and hgtv also included, could be worth just buying 12 months.

Do you guys get CNN on there? I know in some other territories there’s a live stream of CNN International on Max.

No. There are no live channels.

That’s a shame. I know in America you can livestream not just CNN, but the HBO channels too. (I suppose you can’t do that in Australia, where there are no HBO channels!)

From what I heard the US has CNN then the rest of the channels are basically Max channels still in Beta mode. There not linear channels like Discovery, HBO, TLC ect.

I reckon we will eventually get CNN on there.

CNN on Max is a hybrid mishmash of CNN US, CNNI, and its own schedule, whereas the HBO streams available are the linear channels.

Live sporting content from TNT sports would be nice as well

With the popularity of fast channels, it would be a nice addition. Unless a streaming service can start offering playlists where you can add your favourite shows and just let it play

Do you know what channels are on there?

That will be very hard as TNT only has US domestic rights for the sports it carries.
