Gold Network

If only they didn’t get rid of all the great branding that they had before they went bland.

ARN does not relize that the old logo is gold whereas the new logo is yellow by the looks of things

I am sure they not only “noticed” the change, but decided to make the change… for some reason.

Yellow is Fool’s Gold. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Perfectly sums up this network. New slogan?

The Gold logo changing to yellow has coincided with the brand going younger and playing more songs from the 90s and 2000s.

It’s not too different from when the Smooth logo changed from an orange/ brown to a blue/ yellow and a positioning of the brand a few years back, to a younger and more mainstream audience.

Except the new smooth branding looks better but the new Gold branding looks worse.

Perth’s 96fm made morning announcer Mark’smiley’Pascoe redundant.

Suddenly former Md at 96fm Wayne Mcclean is know doing the 9-12 slot.

Not sure how they can do that.

I wonder if Smiley could land a role at either Mix or 6ix

maybe not Mix, but definitely could see him on 6iX!

So I just flicked over to Gold about half an hour ago, and I was shocked for 2 reasons. One, they were actually playing a song. And two, it was a GREAT song! Mr Blue Sky / ELO no less.

But then Christian came on and started promoting his book - at length. I don’t mind a bit of a plug, but this went on and on. Then he started being Melbourne local and talking about appearing at Chadstone, without explaining where that was to interstate listeners. Sigh.

There’s no doubt he can be very personable and entertaining, but he needs to sort out the concept of a national breakfast show in a country that’s a lot bigger than the UK, and people in other states aren’t always familiar with other capital cities.

I tell you what is infuriating though, every single break by Higgo this morning he is promoting The Christian O’Connell Show and how amazing it is.

I get they need to promote it but mentioning it every break is so overkill. I’m ready to change the station because of it.

Yes the over-promotion is very annoying.

I wonder how much of gold does ARN bosses actually listen to though

The current slogan of gold is Just Great Songs is wrong I believe and needs to be changed again

Yep - that would be the biggest thing that annoys me about Commercial Radio.
When it was WSFM, I thought the references to Jonesy & Amamda were getting too much, but it sounds like they’ve taken it up a notch.

In the rare instances when I hear Star 104.5 in Gosford (not by choice)…every single damn talk break during the day is Gina and Matty this, Gina and Matty that!.. then the fake calls they put to air are all about how good Gina & Marty are. Then they throw to a commercial break. What’s the first ad? A promo for Gina & Matty!!! FFS

Hold Up! Second ad? Broadmeadow Car Centre?

Forget about the over-promoting… have you heard how many times they rerun the same content each day?

That’s pretty much what I was referring to.

An update on the situation: I switched off.

Then to top it off the re-run highlights in the evening and on weekends.

They heavily rely on content based shows, I get that’s where the advertising is but it’s not why people listen.

I listen to gold / smooth and heart at work with The Rock mixed in depending on my day. if i’m listening to Gold and Jonesy and Amanda come on its an instant channel change. those two still have not figured out they are a drive show that should be playing more music. at 3 pm I’ve got two hours left of work if im on days. play me music to push me over the line. Don’t tell 5 minute stores, 3 mins of adverts and than 2 songs. its an instant turn off
