Gold Network

Yep, tell that to the advertising agencies. ARN definitely made the comment more than once in relation to 4KQ and said demand for advertising from agencies on 4KQ was a problem even with high ratings.

Further to my comment earlier about GOLD104.3 Facebook now being the main Facebook for the GOLD Network, I can see that they’ve renamed their username/handle to …/JustGreatSongsGOLD

I wonder if this handle will be used for anything else?

Pretty sure it’s used on air.

Gold 80’s has launched on air in Brisbane, but frankly I’m disappointed. It’s yet another decade-based station, and Brisbane really didn’t need another one of those.

Gold had a genuine opportunity here. With the demise of 4KQ, there’s been a clear hole in the market for a broad, heritage-style classic hits station that spans multiple eras and appeals to long-time Brisbane listeners. That format could have gone gangbusters if it had been done properly.

Instead, we’ve ended up with another narrow decades jukebox. While the 80s clearly have an audience, locking the station into a single decade feels like a missed opportunity and a very safe, unimaginative choice. Gold could have been something far more distinctive and locally relevant, rather than just adding to an already crowded “decades” landscape.

I think you’ll find it is the same log as KIIS 80s, which was already there. The branding has changed to align it with Gold DAB which will be launching there soon.

Is Gold DAB+ also launching in Adelaide and Perth and will air Christian O’Connell?

I hope so, and they have not decided to just stick COC on Gold 80’s

I suspect you’re going to be disappointed. They’ve already announced that COC will be on Gold 80s in Perth, it appears that’s going to happen in Brisbane so it would be consistent for them to do the same in Adelaide.

yeah that’s my suspicion. guess we will know on Monday

But isn’t COC only going on Gold 80s in Perth because they’re not really wanting to put him on Gold 96 at this stage? They’re launching the Gold “FM” station on DAB in Brisbane according to everything they’ve announced, and I would fully expect COC to be on that

I thought Gold was replacing 96FM but with the same local breakfast show, with COC on Gold 80s in Perth.

Thats what I thought the plan was. To have Gold DAB in Brisbane with the same line up and music as Gold 101.7 and 104.3, but in Perth have COC on Gold 80s because they’ll keep the local breakfast show in Gold96FM.

I thought it was the 3 hour time difference that stopped it being on 96FM.

4BH on 1116 AM does a classic hits format and they actually rate quite well for a station that once was on the bottom of the ratings pile in Brisbane. They aren’t a replica of 4KQ but they play a mix of 60’s, 70’s and 80’s music with the occasional 90’s song. I think they are also on DAB and the Listnr app. BBQ Bob who was at 97.3 does the breakfast shift at 4BH.

Yep, they do great in a Post-4KQ world. And they are the reason why all of us here keep banging on that 97.3 should be more Gold aligned, if not an AC/Variety format rather than the narrow CHR format of KIIS.

4BH would rate a 15 share in Brisbane if it was on FM. A more contemporary sounding version of that on 97.3 could easily do that or even better imo.

I agree. I reckon a Gold 97.3, even with a slightly younger format than Gold Sydney and Melbourne would rate 17%

We’ll find out Monday ARN’s plans for 97.3 and 94.9 as Gold is yet to appear in the Rivercity and there’s rumours of a format change

Gold 94.9 would not surprise me one bit. It’s not even that big a format change from River 949. It’s also unlikely to bother their Ipswich and Toowoomba advertisers. They could run different ads on 94.9 as opposed to the Brisbane DAB stream. “Gold” would then easily top the DAB ratings in Brisbane, the same way Cada does in Sydney, largely because of the combined FM/DAB listeners.

I’ve said it since 4KQ left the Brisbane market.

Even though it doesn’t tap into Brisbane, it’d be a clearer idea of what the station offers.

GOLD94.9 Ipswich and GOLD DAB+ Brisbane - with COC at Breakfast in Brisbane, Marnie & Campo still in Ipswich.
