Lucky Gavin Miller made the jump from Gold to Magic couple years ago otherwise he would be out of a job next year. Since he was doing drive on Gold 104.3 and JAM is going to do drive next year
Can I just ventā¦..for 2 secondsā¦
Gezz it annoys me when ARN refer to their new ānationalā networks when they havenāt actually rolled out a national networkā¦.
They own stations in Hobart and Darwin, have access to DAB spectrum in both locations but seem to have missed them out.
I am not suggesting they blow up 7HO or HOT/Mix, but they could allocate DAB spectrum and actually claim a national network not a 5/8th national network.
Good point - but the marketās probably too small there for them to consider it worthwhile TBH
Also having recently holidayed in Tasmania, 7HO has a great music mix with much less meaningless unfunny chat like KIIS. Why ruin a good local station?
Tell that to 97.3 & 102.3
Surprised it wasnāt said at the ARN upfronts last week what time Jonesy and Amanda are airing next year in drive?
All their coming soon promo said they were going to drive, didnāt have a time.
Unless it already was.
Not suggesting blowing up 7HO, suggesting they could use DAB to include Hobart and Darwin in a national pushā¦.
Yes I agree. But letās face it, Hobart and Darwin have very small populations even when compared with the larger non-capital cities, especially Gold Coast, Newcastle, Sunshine Coast and Wollongong. Is it really a ānationalā rollout without the Gold Coast, with over 700k people? And there are a lot more people in Townsville than Darwin. But yes they could at least use DAB where itās available
I think maybe when we do think ānationalā however, we do think the capital cities, Hobart, Darwin and Canberra should be amongst that.
Where they have DAB access they should roll both KIIS and Gold out, including the Goldie.
If nothing from a sales objective, you could touch XYZ% of the population rather than XYZ% minus 1.5million.
I would rebrand Chilli Tasmania to KIIS, and roll out KIIS and GOLD brands in Darwin, replacing Hot100 and Mix104.9.
Not sure Iām onboard with the further rollout of KIIS, but Gold yes. I kind of think ARN should fully rollout Gold across the country and pair that with a locally branded CHR/Hot AC station. Eg in Darwin have Gold 104.9 but keep Hot 100
I think most people would reckon that Triple M was the network that should have kept the local brands - there was a lot more heritage on that side of the network - while Hit network regionals were Star, Sea, Sun, Hot, C, etc - some with strong recognition, but nothing they hadnāt already blown up 3 times in previous networking arrangements.
Regional ARN stations do have a bit more identity as Grant didnāt really impose their brands, but you already have Power FM in a bunch of markets, Iād say consolidate some of the Sea/Star/Magic branded stations as Power FM, and nearly everything left should probably keep the current identity.
Gold Central Victoria should probably not have a unique unrelated Gold brand though.
I think the heritage brands on ARN AM regionals are as equally important as the pre-Triple M ones on SCA.
I agree with the Power FM rebrand, if only because I like that brand!

Callsign changes discussed in August:
I donāt think stations arenāt bothered about call signs as ACMA are now primarily using the SL numbers (service licence) when referring to stations.
As with all long standing brands, the brand heritage will endure long after any change. Perth will call 96 as 96, same way Townsville people refer to 102.3 as 4TO and so on. Audience and market rejection of brand change demonstrates the loyalty and futilty of such decisions.
That station in Toowoomba on 864, still 4GR to many etc.
my grandmother still called 101.1 in melbourne TT Fm until her last days - 15 years after the rebrand
Iāll be watching Channel O tonight in Brisbane ![]()
The Super Radio Network caller i heard a couple of weeks ago who said she was listening to 2MW takes the cake for me⦠I donāt think itās been called that since the 1970s?
I canāt imagine kiis 94.9 out of Nowra and kiis out of the gong on 96.5. And gold instead of 2st. My mind spins ![]()
which reminds me, I gotta get my banking done at the Wales! ![]()
I listen to 2uw since the format change I have learnt several languages. ![]()
