Yes, anywhere west of the West Gate Bridge, some of that is part of the Geelong licence area, hence why their signal from Murradoc Hill is 30kw towards Melbourne’s west vs just 2kw towards the city and east.
If you’re anywhere near the bay in the city you can pretty much get it. It fades the further away you get and the more East you go.
younger people use streaming and apps more. The demos for OTA FM will start creeping higher and higher like AM did.
and the more east you go, 94.1 3WBC and 95.7 Golden Days Radio will wipe out Bay FM and K-Rock respectively.
That shouldn’t be an issue with modern radios, they are generally very good at rejecting splatter at +/- 0.2 mhz.
I can receive Krock across most of the Melbourne metropolitan area with RDS, even with a bit of static in the background. Would be a lot harder on a clock radio inside a house. Generally the signal is crystal clear to about the Point Cook bend and then gradually builds light to moderate interference once you pass the ring road merge but the signal is always there in some form. In some ways similar to CADA and River
the circuitry in radios for AM has deteriorated significantly in the last nearly six decades as well, even excluding the rise of human-made electrical and such.
From Monday on Gold 101.7
6-9am Jonesy and Amanda best of show for 2 weeks
9am-12pm Higgo
12-3pm Toni Tenaglia
3-6pm Steve Fitton
I wonder went gold96fm will start in Perth
Rod Maldon will be doing a couple of weeks stint on 96.
It would be good to see ARN launch Gold in Brisbane on DAB tomorrow as part of the overhaul of the network.
Call it ‘Gold Brisbane’ and have the same log as Sydney/ Melbourne, with music for breakfast and the networked announcers from Gold 101.7 / Gold 104.3 during the day and J&A and Christian best-of’s, in the evenings.
If Smooth Brisbane and 4BH’s ratings are anything to go by, it could do well in Brisbane.
Gold Brisbane should have just been 97.3 in the first place, it had the right breakfast show with Robin, Terry and Bob to re-launch under the Gold format and have it feel like a natural progression for the trio and the listener
Yep, that’s what I think as well. They should have gone Gold rather than KIIS when 4KQ disappeared. They could have even still skewed younger than WS/Gold 104. Put KIIS on DAB-only, similar to what is likely to happen in Perth now. There’s no doubt in my mind Gold 97.3 would be a clear No. 1 in Brisbane, probably rating up in the 16’s.
Agreed - would’ve left ARN in Brisbane in a much better position. could’ve kept some ex-4KQ listeners too.
In terms of tomorrow, will be interesting to see what happens in 96fm - will we see any and all KIIS influence dropped tomorrow?
KIIS has no place in any market outside of Sydney. It’s a format designed and curated for Sydney and Sydney only.
ARN should have looked at KIIS 1065 as a case study rather than using it as a network - take a failing station and lure over talent with the promise of creating and rebuilding the station around them and the sound of the city they’re in.
GOLD line up this week SYD
6-9am Jonesy and Amanda best bits
9am-1pm Toni Tenaglia
1-6pm Higgo
So wasnt it today something is announced or am I missing something?
…so…. Hardly live & local for 101.7 this week?
Easter Week? With ANZAC Day in two weeks?
Plus, it’s not 1975. Live and Local matters hardly as much.
