Cue networking

A sad day for Adelaide radio. The day they lose Cruise.

I know 96 is part of the KIIS Network, but what’s the bet their music will now come from the Gold Network.

As per my post above, it’s not just the end for Cruise, but also the end for localism on 96FM.

It would make sense for 96FM to go with Gold network music. But don’t be at all surprised if ARN is stupid enough to go full tilt KIIS with them. They really are that stupid.

especially considering now how they probably wouldn’t care if the KIIS change offends people now - when they went a bit KIIS with the music in 2015-16 there was backlash that was reverted

As myself & others have been predicting, here marks the end of local Gold101.7 Workdays.

End of an era as Huggy leaves GOLD 104.3 Mornings for Cruise 1323 Breakfast

My next prediction is that Huggy’s only holding Cruise1323 Breakfast until his contract expires - which will be when Christian O’Connell will be networked onto Gold101.7 & Cruise1323 (likely to become Gold1323) Breakfast in 2026.

Yes agree.

I still think ARN made a huge mistake selling 4KQ, in order to retain River and Hot 91. I’m sure as they said the revenue was higher for those 2 stations than 4KQ, but if they took a longer term view surely a 5 station metro Gold network would be more valuable, including Gold 693/DAB. I think at the time they were confident they would be able to buy Triple M, but we all know how that turned out. As it stands now they only have 1/2 a station in Brisbane, the 3rd biggest market in the country.

ARN didn’t have to sell 4KQ. It was forced to sell the station due to the antiquated 2 out of 3 rule by the Australian Communications and Media Authority. That rule should have been abolished years ago.

That means we will hear Higgo and Toni on Gold in Sydney?

I definitely agree the rule (2 station rule though, not the 2 out of 3 rule) should be abolished, particularly where it involves neighbouring/overlapping licence areas like in this case Ipswich and Sunshine Coast. But as the rules stood at the time I think they should have opted to keep 4KQ and sell River and Hot. There are lots of ways they could have done it by selling to a “friendly” company. It’s not as if Brisbane is an unimportant market, as mentioned it’s the 3rd biggest in the country, and as they only own half of 97.3 it was a dumb long term move. As I said, I really think they thought they were on the cusp of getting hold of 4MMM and that’s why they let it go.

I wonder if some or all talk breaks from Higgo and Toni will be generic, with both SYD and MEL be referred to as just ‘Gold’ or if they’ll be voice tracked separately still with Gold 101.7 and Gold 104.3 mentioned in each market by the announcers…

So taking Melbourne’s #1 FM drive show out of the timeslot, and an icon of workdays out of the market. Would love to know what they’re sniffing in Sydney.

Well probably they will call it Gold just like Gordie calls it KIIS when he is networked

wonder if this will spell the end of the transitionary “WSFM - Now Gold 101.7” sweepers

I hope so!

It is not fair that ARN had to sell 4kq to comply the 2 staton per company rule when ABC which is owned by the goverment gets away with breaking that rule/law I noticed

In Melbourne they own on AM
(1) ABC Radio National
(2) ABC Radio Melbourne
(3) ABC News Radio

FM
(1) ABC Classic
(4) Triple J

3 AM and 2 FM stations. 5 Stations in Total.

Also, funding doesn’t = ownership

No way should the rule be abolished… These big networks struggle to run singular stations, why should we be letting them buy up all of them and completely destroy an industry?
