The problem is when they do these 80s marathons they don’t go deep enough with the playlist. They play the same well-known tunes over and over again. There are SO many 80s songs they leave out, literally thousands of songs that charted well that just don’t get played. Same with the 70s, that’s even worse. Stations only play a handful of songs from an entire decade, over and over and over.
Yep, exactly ![]()
I’m not sure when it happened but I think a law was passed that banned commercial radio from playing the best of the 80s - the real bangers.
It’s only community radio that can play these songs now.
Back to Gold and cue “Summer of 69” by Bryan Adams.
AFAIK MMM Gold on the GC play 80s all day every Friday. Do any other regional s do this?
Yes mate. Rest of the Triple M network does this.
Some songs don’t age well, others the audience is no longer familiar with as adults and yet moreothers*… well on the 1990s-era Gold 104, you heard “Good Lovin’” but not, say, “My-Ding-a-Ling” by Chuck Berry – as that song didn’t play well to an audience that was no longer 15.
It is not the job of a commercial radio station to make listeners become musicologists, it is to make money.
Is Rob Duckworth the permanent Gold Sydney replacement?
I think Gold 104.3 also has a commitment to play at least one Phil Collins song every hour.
Will it be Sussudio? Easy Lover?
I love Phil Collins but it’s almost a joke how often his songs get a spin on Gold… LESS BEE GEES, MORE PHIL COLLINS
I say the reverse. LESS PHIL COLLINS, MORE BEE GEES. ![]()
Well I say LESS BEE GEES, LESS PHILL COLLINS, MORE ABBA
Well I say MORE BEE GEES, MAYBESOME ABBA, LESS PHIL COLLINS and WAY MORE BANYARD ANIMALS.
Well I say LESS BEE GEES, SOME ABBA, LESS PHILL COLLINS, LESS BANYARD ANIMALS, AND MORE RECORDINGS OF @ElCapitanCranky and @Radiohead arguing
Well I say you’re being “invited” into the a 3 way battle between me and @Radiohead , set to the sounds of the Bee Gees, ABBA and farm animals. ![]()
Christ. Enough of this nonsense.
Or they should play one of his less known songs ,” I Missed Again” is one (from 1981) a great song ![]()
I hate that GOLD 101.7 play an edited/cut down version of his collaboration with Philip Bailey for “Easy Lover”, as opposed to the likes of smoothfm and C91.3 FM that play the full version.
I think it’s easy to say that GOLD 101.7 are playing shortened versions of even really good songs for one reason or another, the main one being longer commercial breaks.
GOLD 101.7 Sydney: Less Music, More Commercials
More so to fit more songs in, that wouldn’t have any impact on how much airtime they can sell.
honestly, regardless of the CEO not mentioning any timeslot he would want J&A in, i still don’t think bodes well for confidence internally regarding Beau, Tarsh and Woodsy for 2MMM!
