Foxtel

Think you will find this is ultra cheap. Foxtel possible only paying the APRA and satellite carriage fees with NightLife keeping any commercial revenue they make to themselves, who knows? If the video quality is like NightLife I have seen in commercial venues in the past with VCD Mpeg1 quality, then I won’t rate it very well at all.

It’s possible that this is also a backdoor way of distributing 24/7 music channels/stations to businesses that need background music without NightLife or whoever having to pay to distribute it. It goes via Foxtel’s resources either sat or IP at low cost, Foxtel gets to tout free music channels to customers. A win-win.

That only works if Foxtel or Apra don’t catch out the commercial venue first. Foxtel Commercial comes at a much higher price than Foxtel Domestic/Residential.

I don’t have any faith in nightlife. I’ve worked in hospitality and it’s not a great service. They just feed venues whatever they have and most of the time it’s overly compressed music you’d find in a dodgy pub.

I have noticed a lot more small country pubs using Kayo to show the AFL broadcasts on the weekend, makes me wonder how many of these venues are really paying commercial licence fees.

Places like McDonald’s or Hungry Jack’s already use Foxtel (in a lot of cases) for instore use but are likely paying for Foxtel Commercial. Sneak in NightLife or whatever to them at a cheaper cost since it’s only music and provide a cheaper STB that caters to either using video or not (they don’t really care as long as it works) and they are none the wiser that it’s via Foxtel.

It depends on if you see a beer glass next to the Fox Sports logo or not. The beer glass indicates a commercial venue feed.

At their risk if caught. Corporates like McDonalds possibly have a business wide discount for all their venues, who knows?

Being caught doing what?
NightLife needs a OneMusic Australia license Licensing - Nightlife Music and NightLife can give a discount (Note: I am not an employee or supporter of NightLife, just using them since they were mentioned before)

The number of businesses around Australia who play music radio stations with no clue that they need to pay for it is probably staggering. The rate of detection and enforcement is likely very very low.

I thought Channel V was supposed to be coming back? Maybe that will come later.

If a venue sources from Foxtel, that is at much more staggering cost than just a OneMusic license.

mis-reporting I think

The old music channels are still going. When new channels launch on Foxtel, it has often been closer to 6:00 am than midnight.

Foxtel Go has mostly changed over , The generic channels like Retro , club , Trending are back to back music videos with the same song title graphic that nightlife uses. So it’s embedded in the videos! MAX and Australian played has popped up but the stream isn’t working yet. Foxtel via sat still has MTV.

CMC has the old watermark back but using Nightlife graphics for the song title, so assume MAX will be the same too.

And it’s what Seven News uses for the NRL stories

Yes, I’m aware of the beer glass watermark. You don’t get on any of the Kayo feeds. Seems like a lot of country pubs are preferring Kayo rather than Foxtel satellite for cheap access to 4K footy coverage.

where i work we use soundtrack.io

we have the player (which is essentally an IP converter box that takes the webstream and turns it into RCA outputs. it also has a buffer to store songs if the internet goes out).

it can be as cheap as $30 a zone, per month. once you buy the player $249. it also includes the licence. alot cheaper than foxtel. admttitdly its only audio but stil…

Something interesting happened this morning regarding the switchover from MTV etc. to the new Foxtel music video channels.

I was watching MTV 80s to see the switchover to Retro. At about 3:10 am my iQ5 reset itself. After that, I could still watch MTV 80s for 30-60 minutes, until I switched channels. After that, if I switched back, it showed Retro instead. I wonder if I had kept it on MTV 80s how long it would have lasted.

Foxtel Go had switched to the new channel names by 3:10 am.

For awhile channel listings were all over the place. Some had the new name but the old listing (e.g. Nick Music Closing or similar. This was consistent on the iQ5 and Foxtel Go.

Receiving Foxtel channels via internet.

The new channels are on Binge. Jumped on to Max and within seconds the track info appeared on screen with the nightlife logo.

Thanks TVHead - it’s all keeping me pretty busy.
