Foxtel

I’m guessing people have talked about this before. All the boxes pre IQ4 are getting shut down soon, My dad still has a Austar standard box and we’ve got 2 letters about it shutting down in mid June. also ABC and SBS will stop working on May 29th on any non HD box.

Does anyone know what time it will be and if they could record it, I can’t.

Is your dad receiving Foxtel directly or Foxtel via Telstra?

Just got this email from Foxtel today.

As of July 1, the dish and cabling will be the end users responsibility and not Foxtel moving forward. (They will still replace the STB IQ4 or IQ5 if there is an issue with that.) So if something goes wrong (damaged etc) with the satellite dish or associated cabling, you’ll have to pay for a local tech to fix.

Hasn’t Foxtel already confirmed this?

I got the same email last September.

Yeah I got the same thing just the other day. Surely the beginning of the decommissioning of the satellite distribution network.

I’ve received one as well but don’t have satellite :man_shrugging:

they have an agreement with optus until 2031 to supply programming via satellite. its probably more likely they don’t want to pay retainers to remote satellite techs where there is not enough work

I saw that this was happening a year or two ago or maybe even longer. Have they been postponing it repeatedly or just rolling it out in different areas at different times?

There’s a little bit more information on the Foxtel web site than in the emails & the way I read it is, they are cutting costs & won’t be retaining/paying contract technical staff to install or repair anything.
If something goes wrong with the dish, it’s your responsibility & cost to get a local tech to fix it, if something goes wrong with the iQ box, it’ll be post it back & we’ll send out another one & all installs will be self install from here on, Foxtel will no longer send any technical staff to install or repair an installation, be it Satellite or Internet.

Foxtel directly

More lineup changes:

From 30 June 2025, the MTV Music Channels will no longer be available on Foxtel. These include MTV Hits (Ch: 801), Nick Music (Ch: 802), MTV Club (Ch: 803), MTV 80s (Ch: 804), and CMT (Ch: 805).

Coming soon: New Music Video channels are coming to Foxtel in July. More details to follow!

Oh yes, DAZN have really done a ‘great job’ with Foxtel so far, haven’t they?
I suppose those NOW Music channel streams will take over the space after June 30, since I can’t imagine DAZN programming a suite of music channels the way the previous owners did.

I would suggest the channels leaving was in train long before DAZN took over.

And I would suggest they’re probably not great losses.

The Max brand will be available again soon.

(They’ll probably find something else).

Will be interesting to see if they disappear from Fetch as well

Update, i just checked today and the ABC and SBS channels still work some how (My dad has a Austar Flinders btw).

On MTV 80s there aren’t any ads, just their standard positioners every break. The station must come straight from Europe as the program times changed when Europe started daylight saving time and again when daylight saving time ended here. Not sure about the other MTV channels.

I had a brief look on CMT and didn’t see any ads there either.

I had a look on one of the Vevo music video channels and didn’t see any ads there either.

Maybe this has something to do with it?

Foxtel would be paying a carriage fee to Paramount for the MTV channels and have probably realised it’s not worth it, especially if reports of DAZN taking a look at costs is true.

Especially if they can set up their own or find a cheaper product to buy in.

Wouldn’t it be hilarious if Foxtel reduced the price of the basic tier after culling so many channels?
