Am I right in saying the Now app for iOS is just the Go app with a new icon, nothing else has changed? What’s the interface like for the browser version?
100% agree.
They’re rebranding Play in an attempt to compete with Netflix and Stan, yet both of those services cost $8-$15 for everything available, while Foxtel costs $100+ for everything available.
Fair enough, charge $29/month for the live sport, that I understand, but $15/month for a pack that only has 4-5 channels in it, is just not competitive.
correct. i had this argument when fox added hillsong channel. you might not watch it but loads of people (myself included) do. the point of having all these channels is to have choice.
Wow.
Foxtel could make a killing if they played their cards right. Sports pack for only $30 a month, and unmetered on Telstra (not sure if it yet), without having to subscribe to any other useless bullshit, would be popular with the punters.
Foxtel’s problem is that they’re a high-cost business (those studio rights and sporting rights contracts are expen$ive) trying to compete in a low-cost environment. How can they possibly keep costs as low as to compete with Netflix, which has original in-house content and a subscriber base across over 100 countries?
They’re in a bit of a conundrum as to where to go from here.
Aside from adding Chromecast support, the home screen seems to give much more prominence to on demand content compared to Foxtel Go which has a balance between promoting on demand and what’s currently airing on the linear streams
Do the packs for Foxtel Now actually include streaming live channels or is it mostly on demand content only? Like do they have Nat Geo channel streaming the whole channel?
It’s both.
Yes you have Nat Geo, Nat Geo Wild and Nat Geo People.
I’m sure people watched those removed channels and agree my opinion is subjective but to me they were useless. That’s my opinion. I never stated anywhere in my post it was fact though. That’s all. I’m glad to see those channels gone at least on my end of the spectrum.
Can’t get it working on my Samsung TV which was fine last night (I’m halfway through the Wentworth ep from last night) and on Chrome on my computer.
I logged in on my phone and it added it as a 4th device (I already have 3 registered) then went on my PS4 to watch and said I needed to deactivate one of the 4 devices to continue with 99 device registration changes left lol. Not complaining about the device changing number, but WTF. Why not have all apps ready to go together?
Also the foxtel Now app is crap. its a new search but the same crappy player is still used. No 10 second skip back or forward or fine fast forwarding etc. Also app locks up if you exit and it go back in.
It’s all buggy as hell and not user friendly still.
Would never have thought they would ditch the Fox Logo Branding.
Can’t wait to see what Random Mocks come up with.
I think they should’ve used the searchlights logo in 21st century fox logo instead of those multiple dots
That’s what I was thinking just yesterday! Incorporate it into the “O” or something. At least it would of referenced the past heritage in a way, but 21st Century Fox doesn’t own FOXTEL as it’s a seperate entity from News Corp formed as a spin-off in 2014, so It’d probably be out of the question.
I thought Foxtel is (or was?) split 50/50 between News Corp and Telstra…hence the name?
Yes that’s true and still is the case, but 21st Century Fox’s Searchlight circle motif is apart of 21st Century Fox, a seperate entity from News Corp since it was a spin-off formed in 2014.
A totally unbiased (that’s what he claims) opinion piece from News Corp’s Matthew Dunn:
Foxtel Now offers the best live sport in Australia, while destroying competitors’ streaming catalogues
Fake news
Does he also say that Sky News crushes ABC News 24?
Not to mention the small amount of non-sport channels and shows you get for the $39 price tag he keeps going on about is miniscule.
