Foxtel

I thought they were originally doing this with Binge and Kayo but stopped doing it?

Buried lede in there that Foxtel are registering users for the IQ5.

Also interesting to note if the newspapers are following a similar business model of cutting out valuable parts of their business and offering that to market. The big rebrand of the Sports sections of each newspaper would make an excellent standalone brand for a paywalled sports news offering.

“It started with Kayo and a technology platform that is completely scalable at very little incremental cost. We have added Binge to that platform, and soon, we’ll add our other streaming services – Foxtel Now and Foxtel GO,” he said at the time.

Seems like the Foxtel apps will be similar to Kayo/Binge in the future when it moves to the Streamotion platform

how will that work???

Outrageous that it’s not free in this day and age anyway.

They’ll be pleased you didn’t say Netscape !

I can see why they try and do these deals - they want to sell their product as being the critical bit of being able to watch content (and for a lot of people, it simplifies their life)

But you can only hold back the tide so much

Me too. They’re just always a couple of years too late!

I do like seeing the Foxtel and Netflix shows on the one screen scroll and accessible with the one remote. The Foxtel remote is so easy to use. I watch Stan so much less as I can’t be bothered changing remotes(first world problem)

I don’t have Prime but I will get it if it’s included on the same remote and included in the same bill.

Saw a new ad for YouTube and YouTube Kids is coming to foxtel this year. Really makes Telstra’s own TV Box redundant with these apps on foxtel now, as we get foxtel thought them.

Maybe for you but I doubt for most people it would be the case

Only really use mine for BigPond Movies.

Is it still called that?

Sorry, the Telstra TV Box Office.

Ah ok, was going to say why they haven’t rebranded.

Honestly, I still call it that, even when we had a T-Box back in the day.

News Corp has reported a big increase for Kayo and Binge subscribers in the company’s annual results.

As of June 30, 2021, Foxtel’s total closing paid subscribers were 3.891 million, a 40% increase compared to the prior year, primarily due to growth in Binge and Kayo subscribers and higher commercial subscribers, partially offset by lower residential broadcast subscribers. 1.885 million of the total closing paid subscribers were residential and commercial broadcast subscribers, and the remaining 2.006 million consisted of Kayo, Binge and Foxtel Now subscribers.

As of June 30, 2021, there were 1.079 million Kayo subscribers (1.054 million paying), compared to 465,000 subscribers (419,000 paying) in the prior year.

Binge, which launched in May 2020, had 827,000 subscribers (733,000 paying) as of June 30, 2021, compared to 80,000 subscribers (56,000 paying) in the prior year. As of June 30, 2021, there were 228,000 Foxtel Now subscribers (219,000 paying), compared to 336,000 subscribers (313,000 paying) in the prior year.

Broadcast subscriber churn in the quarter was 17.1% compared to 13.2% in the prior year, due to fewer promotions, the roll-off of lower value subscribers, as well as the lapping of various measures implemented due to Covid-19 in the prior year. Broadcast ARPU for the quarter increased 4% to A$81 (US$63).
