Fox League

Why bother with two nights? Surely you could do a stupid try and tackle of the year at the same time as the rest?

There are other support awards to be presented next Monday night. You will have to ask the NRL why it split the ceremony into two nights.

Turns out that night 1 of the Dally M Awards also included resumption of vote counting. Voting went behind closed doors after Round 12, and the leaderboard from Round 13 to 19 were revealed last night.

Alex Johnston received the Ken Irvine Medal during the telecast.

not surprised, Foxtel always, blank cheque book carrying, goes after retired-this-year players to join their commentary team!

Benji has a lot of playing experience, I look forward to seeing how he goes.

Much prefer the FOX approach of keeping its team fresh instead of the Nine approach of trotting out largely the same team year after year on end,

Weidler with the story today that has been talked about for ages by other media but not publicly - the concerns about how much influence Fox and News Corp have with the NRL, and even moreso now with V’Landys running the place.

It’s been a festering gossip/bitchfest now for many, many months and it’s coming into the open.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise really - the game has been beholden to an interlinked group of News entities since the late 90s and its not helped by the game deriving the vast majority of their sustaining funds from media interests (especially television).

The story about the NRL axing their digital division during the week is another example of how much power News (and Nine) wield over the game.

Would also explain the continual bagging of 9 in news corpus press. News wants to dictate and run the show it seems.

It’s a decision that will hurt the league long-term. You only have to look at the US and the success of NFL Media and MLB Network to see how a well-operated league media division/outlet can complement and supplement what rightsholders do.
