Sydney FC won their second Australia Cup, coming from behind to defeat Brisbane Roar 3-1 in tonight’s final at Allianz Stadium. Brisbane took a shock lead in the 18th minute thanks to Thomas Waddingham’s goal near the 10 yard box, before the home side scored three times in the second half. Two of those goals came from recent signing Fabio Gomes.
Australia was never going to bid as just us, we were always going to bid as a group with other countries. What don’t people understand about that?

Australia’s 8-0 thumping of the Philippines, combined with the scoreless draw between Iran and Chinese Taipei in the second game at Optus Stadium this evening, means the Matildas will finish on top of group A as they have a superior goal difference (+10). The Philippines will need to beat Iran on Wednesday to finish second, and rely on other results in group B and C to see if they will be the best performing second-placed team to progress into the playoffs next February.
