Perth Glory FC launched retro-inspired home and away kits for the 2026/27 A-League season, drawing straight from the 2000-01 designs with purple hues, orange trim, swan details, and the Chicken Treat logo across the chest

Should’ve used the actual Chicken Treat logo from the era.

Yeah looks crap with the big circle otherwise.

Hope Haaland and friends enjoy playing in League 2! If only, I have a bad feeling they will attempt to get away with their cheating and not suffer too much. Only ‘little’ EPL teams like Everton or in Football Association territory, Sheffield Wednesday, get severe penalties.

A-Leagues in no rush to replace Western United - Steve Rosich

A-League chief executive Steve Rosich says there is no rush to fill the void left by Western United in the Melbourne market, with the competition’s current priority the stabilisation of its existing franchises.

The A-League launched its 2026-27 campaign in Sydney on Wednesday, its second season without Western United since the club was placed in “hibernation” and its first since it moved to formally terminate its licence to compete in August.

A-League rules out standalone women’s clubs: ‘Not in our thinking’

Australian Professional Leagues (APL) chief executive Steve Rosich has all but ruled out the introduction of further standalone women’s clubs in the A-League Women.

Holman Barnes Group (HBG) was announced as the operator of the Central Coast Mariners’ women’s side in early August, ensuring the team’s survival after the club’s new owners, Total Soccer Growth Holdings (TSG), chose to invest only in the men’s and academy setups after taking control of the licence.

“Look, it’s possible that it might extend to other clubs, but that was unique to that situation,” Rosich told ESPN. “[It was] the right way to take those two teams forward, in doing it in that way.”

Rosich also confirmed this means that a future Canberran men’s side would utilise the same branding as the city’s women’s side – be that a continuation of the Canberra United or a new identity.

South Melbourne have won their first Australia Cup, beating Melbourne Victory 4-3 in the penalty shootout at a sold-out AAMI Park tonight. Victory opened the scoring in the fifth minute of extra time first half through Denis Genreau, before South Melbourne (which claimed the inaugural Australian Championship last year) responded through Maximillian Mikkola’s 117th minute goal.

South Melbourne is the first club from outside the A-League to claim the Australia Cup. The result means South Melbourne qualifies for AFC Champions League Two in the 2027-28 season.

South Melbourne goalie Javier Lopez was named the Mark Viduka medallist.

South Melbourne can take a long jump off a short pier. So can all the old NSL clubs hanging on for dear life (except for the mighty Jets, Adelaide and Perth).

Wow. Surprised, but impressed, to read that is the highest crowd at AAMI Park - beating some A-League Grand Finals, and some NRL Semi Finals matches there too.

Not by much. Dare I say it would have been the less than 100 higher than the 2025 Grand Final irrespective of the attendance…

City and Victory Grand Final: 29,902
South Melbourne and Victory Australia Cup: 29,911

Both pretty phenomenal - the attendance at the australia cup final was such a compelling argument for Hellas to join the a leagues.

Um no. If the South Melbourne lot were the ones responsible for booing the welcome to Country, instant red flag. This is Australia, not Greece. If you don’t like the fact that the idigenious people of this land were here first, go home.

It was the likes of them and their misdeeds that lead to the scrapping of the NSL and SA in their current forms, and the start of the A-League and it’s current issues. They were the original sin.

I say the entire league system needs to the scrapped again, all of them aligned with the current summer schedule, and NZ dragged into the system as well. If you’re going to do promotion and relegation, this is the only way to do it. South can earn it that way.

And do it in the same way Japan reformed their leagues with the J-League - they represent the broader community, not corporations, not specific groups, with very tight rules about what they can and can’t do. And if that means bringing back the anti-ethnic name rules, so be it.
