FM Spectrum Replan - Perth

Actually Canberra and Hobart are known as part of regional Australia, not capital cities like the five mainland capitals.

You are putting words in my mouth - you obviously didn’t read my post. I never mentioned “massive”. I said ‘a not insignificant amount’.

How about you and your buddy stop whingeing about the ABC and DAB+ in Australia and enjoy the content that is on offer. It is really ridiculous reading your stupid posts on this forum.

If you don’t like Australian radio then buy an mp3 player or stream overseas channels. But stop complaining.

With all due respect you don’t control the content on this forum, and the points made by the users in question do not go against forum rules.

If you don’t like the posts made I suggest not reading them.

I don’t like people trolling me with nonsense. If someone replies to my posts that I don’t agree with, I have every right to reply.

Actually, Canberra is not only A capital city, it’s THE capital city (national). And of course, Hobart is the capital city of Tasmania. Also, a quick shout out to Darwin, the capital of the Northern Territory.

??? Why discuss anything at all then? Isn’t the point of a forum to discuss what you do & don’t like about a thing. This is more ludicrous than either side of the original argument ever could have been.

Oh come on. I don’t even disagree with your original argument but you can’t be serious? The only troll I’ve seen on here today is @lovemusic

Yes but that doesn’t give you a free pass to be rude, disrespectful & childish to other members. You’re not the centre of the universe and other people have different opinions than you. And you know what? You can both respectfully disagree, argue your points & move on in life.

Please come back down to earth & show basic respect & decency.

Thank you Squee, NDY and Fine Tuned. All very well said.

Now back to the topic at hand… Perth!

Of course the point of a forum is to discuss things, but like I said, I have every right to reply to people trolling me if I don’t agree with them and I have a right to say what I think.

Garbage. You are now trolling me just to have a go. Instead of attacking me how about you discuss the original argument, instead of trying to act like the forum police officer.

Actually, that is a matter of perspective. Who are you to judge anyway?

I know that. How about you stop giving me a lecture and get on with your life?

I could say the same thing to you.

Come on guys. Disagreeing and debating isn’t necessarily trolling. Can we just agree that you both have different views on the subject and move on, please?

@Brianc68 I apologise for the strong language, there was no need for it. My ego got the better of me. It’s fine to have different opinions, even strongly different opinions. No hard feelings.

No problem thank you. Let’s just move on with the discussion. I actually agree with a lot of your points about DAB! So keep posting.

I Believe 810am for 6IX after Radio National Moves to FM, Probably a Better Choice.

So, if they do go with option 1 and they all go FM, how is it decided which of the commercial stations get 91.3 or 104.9? Coin toss?

I would hazard a guess that the preferred frequency for both 6iX and 6PR would be 91.3, as Perth commercials are all below 96.1 and the upper end of the FM dial might seem less desirable. 104.9 is a long way from the rest of the commercial stations.

I guess the only advantage would be 104.9 is fairly close to 6iX’s current FM translators at 105.7, although I’m not sure how many listeners they have in reality.

The option paper had them allocated as 91.3 to 6PR and 104.9 to 6IX.

Not sure if this is final - but maybe 6IX being away from all the other FMs might get this option over the line…

Ah, thanks. Yes they possibly did that on purpose to try to appease the current FM’s.

Option 1 is definitely the best outcome for listeners who will get crystal clear reception of all 6 commercial and all 5 ABC stations.

So with 6 commercial FMs (ala Sydney and Melbourne), could we see moves from ARN and Nova Entertainment to buy those licences and mirror the Syd/Melb situation, so something like

Nova = Smooth 91.3 and Nova 93.7
ARN = KIIS 96.1 and Gold 104.9
SCA = MMM 92.9 and Mix (Hit) 94.5 (as it is now).

And could 6PR and 6IX take the $$$$ on offer from Nova/ARN and resurface on AM under narrowcast licences perhaps - you could argue that their formats are not mainstream.

I think there is close to zero chance of Nine selling 6PR if it moves to 91.3, as they would want a radio presence in the 4th largest city. They already have WA Today and the TV license. Grant’s on the other hand could sell if the price is right, to reinvest in their regional networks, but I think this is also a long shot. The price would have to be close to what ARN paid for 96.1 in 2015.

Yeah unlikely I know…

It is good for a regional operator like Grant Broadcasters, to have a presence in a metro city, similar to ACE in Melbourne and BOG in Sydney.
