I also thought that his call of the final was decent. Can’t say the same about his commentary of some of the other matches though.
Agreed. Nothing wrong with Martin Tyler’s commentary. He is still doing a great job, as he has been doing for decades on SBS and Sky.
There was plenty of energy with his call and the audio emanating from the crowd at the stadium, came through fine.
All in all it was great commentary and a classic final.
The poor bloke is having to fly solo. SBS should have given him a co-commentator to lighten the load a little bit (especially at his age) and someone for him to bounce off. He did a decent job all in all in my view.
I wished that Peter would have commentated the game instead of Martin Tyler. Martin Tyler used to be very good back in the early days. But since the start of 2010s his commentary had gone downhill and made a lot of blunders in his calls. Unfortunately he didn’t have any emotion in his commentary. It made it very hard for me to listen to. Martin Tyler was similar to voice of rugby league Ray Warren.
I watched the big group matches, 7 round of 16 matches and every match from the quarters up to the Final.
Yes but the rest of the tournament, bar a few moments, has been below-par.
That was his choice. Read the above article and SBS states that they gave him the option and he wanted to do it himself as he has done for the past 30+ years.
Peter Drury commentated for the world feed. This clip is taken from TSN in Canada.

God I love the energy & enthusiasm in Drury’s voice.
That’s your opinion. I watched a few of the games where he commentated and he was good, even though he was doing it solo. I can think of a lot worse commentators.
Some overseas TV ratings for the World Cup final were released overnight.
UK: A peak of more than 19 million saw the match, with 14.9 million watching on the BBC and 4.3 million on ITV. It was the third-most watched match of this World Cup behind England v Senegal and England v France.
France: the match averaged 24.1 million viewers and peaked at 29.4 million.
USA: around 16.8 million viewers watched the final on Fox, with another 9 million viewers watching on Telemundo and live streaming on Peacock.

The final achieved a total linear TV reach of 834,000 viewers, and 775,000 on BVOD.
“It was an absolutely stunning decider and a fitting end to an exceptional World Cup for SBS,” said Managing Director of SBS James Taylor.
To date, audiences have consumed 80 million hours of tournament content, with linear TV accounting for more than 52 million hours, and BVOD an additional 28 million hours.
“Not only was this a great tournament for the Socceroos and, by extension, the game in Australia, Aussie football fans have really made it a standout event for us,” said SBS Director of Sport, Ken Shipp.

Excellent numbers for the entire FIFA World Cup tournament. Shows that many fans can watch the games live on Linear TV or live streaming or replay.
BTW, for anyone complaining about Tyler’s calling this World Cup, please check out the Fox Sports commentary that we in the US have had to put up with.
I had to endure it for the England vs USA match, which I watch at friend’s house. So glad I could use a VPN and watch the BBC and ITV instead.
