7’s is the same. All the international feed
In Australia, ESPN’s coverage of College Football Playoffs National Championship game starts at 9am AEDT next Tuesday, January 21.
There’s some speculation that ESPN will be removed from Foxtel in July and move across to Disney Plus, after the DAZN acquisition: https://whatsondisneyplus.com/is-espn-coming-soon-to-disney-in-australia/
I assume it will be gone from Fetch too?
If ESPN does move to Disney+, it will also affect bars and restaurants that show the channel on the big screen. Unless Disney offers standalone commercial packages?
Given DaZone’s 10-year global deal with the NFL, Foxtel will still have the rights to all pro football, including ESPN’s MNF.
While ESPN on Disney+ may be able to offer NCAA, and various in- house NFL programming, I’d still suggest that Foxtel subscribers (bars and restaurants) will have access to a superior NFL product (and not world feeds either).
Sure other sports, particularly NBA, will be lost, but with NFL Dazone have the advantage of being able to repackage Game Pass across various offerings.
I’m not sure they’d be allowed to replicate GamePass as a broadcast proposition - in fact I’d be very surprised if they could.
NBA is quite popular in Australia. Will there be another way for bars and restaurants to show the matches legally?
In a related issue, since ESPN is the primary broadcaster of both NBL and WNBL in Australia, will it be a good thing or bad thing for both competitions if the channel is only available to Disney+ subscribers?
NBA League Pass.
Broadcast?
If by ‘broadcast’ you’re referring specifically to ‘pubs and clubs’ then DaZone already has this covered.
How would it be any different from now? You would still have a component of free to air offerings between Network 10 & Nine and the remainder behind a paywall like with Foxtel etc.
Are you deliberately spelling this wrong? It’s DAZN.
But yes. You’re right.
By which I mean to the extent that Foxtel/Kayo subscribers are not going to get access to GamePass out of the goodness of DAZN’s heart, nor would Foxtel/DAZN be able to broadcast games on their channels.
When did Foxtel Subscribers ever get access to NFL GamePass? As far as I know they only every get what espn is showing. When Dazn does fully take over NFL Gamepass would most likely be a addon.
They don’t/won’t.
Read my post again.
I think I know what you mean. They can still get it Via Dazn it just means people will be getting as an addon. But do I think Dazn would do this for free? Nope? Not unless they did some promotion type thing, or a deal was done.
I think both deals are up this coming off season (maybe because of this uncertainty).
Well if it’s not on the services most sports fans have in this country, that’s a negative (even if it stays on the main basketball service).
Although I guess Disney+ has a bigger general audience which could be seen as a positive.
When you own the rights, you’re free to distribute them any way you wish. If ESPN decided not to extend it’s agreement with Foxtel/Dazn or vice versa, it would be a great value proposition for Disney+ to have a more well rounded offering locally.
And ESPN doesn’t have the NBL rights next year yet and the NBL might not like the idea of being somewhat hindered in their growth because they’re hidden away from sports fans who don’t necessarily like American sports but might watch Australian basketball.
