ABC Radio was promoting earlier today they would be going into extended coverage from tomorrow morning on their Cairns, Townsville and Mackay stations.

In sad news, for those in Townsville and surrounds, their first cyclone without Steve Price.
A common note of appreciation for his career was from locals for his calming contribution to cyclone coverage and recovery efforts/fundraisers.

Checked online and it was on yesterday. Could either be a coincidence or Mackay crew may be doing some evening/overnight coverage, which is when the cyclone is expected to make landfall.

If you mean ABC - ‘Meech’ the ABC Mackay Breakfast presenter just did a 5 hour afternoon/drive shift. Now moving to Adam Stephen ex-Cairns for the next 5 hours.

Thanks @glen2006 for the explanation, with the Mackay breakfast staff contributing to the coverage, that’s understandable.
Again, all the movement of staff would be better if stations were better resourced in the first place.

Yeah, they could of used the Saturday Breakfast producers & presenters if necessary. At least there is rolling coverage, and it’s coming from somewhere local instead of interstate like they’ve done before for emergency coverage.
