Cant see how listeners in Port Melbourne can easily get ABC Radio Melbourne on FM… Yarra Ranges 96.1 is a bit of a stretch…

89.5 Marengo comes in like a local… not

The Mt Badgally DAB site is off, it started having issues early last week, then mid last week the feeder coax going up the tower got a short in it & blew the amplifier up, we replaced the amplifier & put it on low power from mid last week until Friday, when the issue got so bad we had to turn the site off. All going well the feeder coax cable will be replaced on Thursday & the site restored to full power on air.

The Port Melbourne DAB site is okay, it’s only on low power due to the mobile phone base station head frame on the pole the DAB antenna’s on is being replaced, & it needs to be on reduced power for radiation safety to the riggers replacing the mobile base station antennas. All going well it’s due to go back to full power on the 20th June. It’s been on half power for a couple of weeks now.

Thank you @anon71206228 , your posts are very informative. I am happy someone from the industry reads the reception posts and takes action. A credit to you.

It’s great to see industry people on here - other than reception reports from listeners/viewers, the techs only have the alarms to monitor far off sites. Often the alarms don’t tell you everything that’s happening and if they are faulty too there is no indication anything is amiss unless someone reports it. Mostly the alarms only tell you things like program fail, carrier fail, mains fail and diesel running and door alarm if you own the site.

Update on Mt Badgally DAB, feeder was replaced yesterday & we have the site running again, but there’s further issues, possibly with the antenna also, so the site maybe operational or off over the next little while until we can sort out exactly what the issue is. Antennas are custom made for these sites so not easily/quickly replaceable if it’s that.

I suppose that’s what you get when the site has bad in its name.

With the launch of iHeartTrivia (see post), the bitrate of WSFM & KIIS in Sydney has been reduced from 48kbps to 32kbps.

KIIS973 is also 32 kbits/s

Next it will be down to 16 kb/s RealAudio streams from 1996.

Real Audio!? That’s a blast from the past.

The was the only way you could listen to overseas radio back in the day!

As soon as the phone rang and it was picked up, the internet would drop out and you’d lose the audio haha

My Wish is for Adelaide and Perth to have another Multiplex for DAB+ to Match the Eastern State Capitals.

I drove the whole Sydney M4 East > M8 Tunnels today (20 kms all underground!) and I’m pleased to report I had seamless DAB+ reception the whole way.

Long time lurker, first time poster. I noticed this license issued last week for Launceston, anyone got any details on this?

I can’t confirm any further details, but intriguingly a lookup of the registered postal address for “Free Digital Radio Pty Ltd” matches up to the postal address of the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia.

There is also this ABC at the same site. This licence listed as granted unlike the above.

The frequency 208.064 mhz is Channel 9D on DAB.

Perhaps a DAB trial for Launnie?

It’s unusually that it’s been issued to CBAA. Maybe one or both of the community stations are keen to get onto DAB and that commercials aren’t interested.

However, the status of the licence is “not granted”.
