Cricket TV Rights 2024/25-2030/31 (Seven/Foxtel)

9 need to let go of all of this so cricket is on the one FTA channel (makes it easier for the viewer) but of course they won’t because these matches rate well.
Decide what you want to be the “home of” but you can’t be both. Currently 9 is the “home of tennis and a little bit of cricket thrown in.”
I’ll wait for all the negative comments. :grinning:

How is it easier for the viewer to have mid-winter Ashes series or World Cups on the same channel that holds domestic summer rights

Because you know where to find cricket and where to find tennis, simple.
Similarly, there should be no BBL not shown on FTA, for the same reason.
Just my opinion.

I don’t even know where to start with this.
So I’ll just say everyone’s entitled to their very unique options.

Thank you. Because there’s a lot more wild and wacky opinions, other than mine, expressed every day on this forum.

From @blackbox:

It turns out the reason they partnered with Seven again is because Paramount refused to work with Foxtel and Nine’s priority was Tennis and Olympics. Basically Seven was their only choice.

“The question remains as to why Cricket Australia refused to consider a scenario that did not include News Corp”. From TV Blackbox article.

Pretty simple when someone from a News Corp company was an adviser to CA on the broadcast deal rights!

Hence why they’re paying less and getting more. It basically fell in Sevens lap.

Or maybe 7 should give the cricket to nine for the same reason?

Seven could also give all the horse racing to 10 who could also take all soccer games.

Sure.
And for the same reason I like that Wimbledon is on 9.

Imagine the commentary if 10 had secured the cricket rights and tonight’s graphics meltdown had happened.

In the voice of Tony Greig: ‘it would have been carnage’.

Tony Greig would be trying to stifle an acid reflux reaction half way through that sentence.

They are in preliminary talks to move forward the reduction in the number of BBL matches from as early as next year: https://www.smh.com.au/sport/cricket/bbl-downsize-may-allow-others-to-follow-stoinis-to-uae-20230106-p5casi.html

Given the history of friction between Seven and CA over the scheduling of the BBL in previous, COVID-19 seasons, an agreement to depart from the letter of the existing broadcast contract would represent a step forward in good faith dealings.

An early test of whether 7 still wants to indulge in its pastime of ‘trashing the cricket’.

Saw a specific generic promo for the BBL on 7, so maybe they’re happy to give promoting it a real go …
