Cricket TV Rights 2024/25-2030/31 (Seven/Foxtel)

Very much agree.

Who knew what CA were smoking when they thought the best way to enhance short form cricket was to lengthen it…

That makes more sense…

This contract is however longer than the previous one.

It doesn’t have to be like that though, for instance in the AFL, the non-traditional markets get their local teams on FTA, mostly live.

How does cricket and its content perform per market? Cricket has been more of a whole of country game to my understanding so not sure if they have any weak markets per say.

Wonder who asked that, a very interesting way of wording things?

It was a bold move to allow @cmo access to the presser. (I kid, :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:)

So where does this leave the ODI games?

Not on FTA for 13 years & most likely happening in November with more low crowds since mid December to end of Jan will be BBL & test cricket.

So we could be seeing the death of ODI’s in Australia, or at least the interest in ODI’s dying

Given the reduction in length it would be great if they reverted to rounds rather than just a whole heap of random games. Even though the games would still happen nightly I think it would be nice if each team played once each round, so it flows smoothly like other sports.

Something like this might work:

Round 1 - Thursday 12 December - Sunday 15 December 2024 (1 Saturday Fox exclusive)
Round 2 - Monday 16 December - Thursday 19 December 2024
Round 3 - Friday 20 December - Sunday 22 December 2024 (2 Saturday Fox exclusive)
Round 4 - Thursday 26 December - Sunday 29 December 2024 (1 Saturday Fox exclusive)
Round 5 - Monday 30 December 2024 - Thursday 2 January 2025
Round 6 - Friday 3 January - Sunday 5 January 2025 (2 Saturday Fox exclusive)
Round 7 - Monday 6 January - Thursday 9 January 2025
Round 8 - Friday 10 January - Sunday 12 January 2025 (2 Saturday Fox exclusive)
Round 9 - Monday 13 January - Thursday 16 January 2025
Round 10 - Friday 17 January - Sunday 19 January 2025 (2 Saturday Fox exclusive)
Semi Finals - Thursday 23 January - Friday 24 January 2025
Grand Final - Sunday 26 January 2025

I would say they’re already dead given the lack of promotion and poor crowd numbers for the games in 2022.

I wonder if we will ever learn that whenever an article says “a source familiar with the negotiations, but who has to remain anonymous because of confidentiality” we should instead read “the following is BS”.

Who is the host broadcaster for Tests currently and in the new deal?

This isn’t always the case.

Fox?

This covers most of the reporting of all of this!

That’s almost the same length as currently. They’ll definitely cut a week off the schedule before Christmas, and maybe some more

In the 2018 deal, Fox was the host broadcaster for Tests (as they did the toss, interviews, drs stuff etc) & 7 was BBL host broadcaster.

I assume the new deal would be the same.

Wonder how 7 are achieving 50 million in production savings across the length of the deal? Is it simply a function of the reduced number of matches or will they also cut expenditure for the Test coverage?

It’s not as binary as you make out, it can often come down to the author and/or publication.

Two Ashes and two Border-Gavaskar series is a selling point for 7 to retain the test rights
