Any vetting that they are doing atm is nowhere near strong enough. Just based on the celebrities we know of. Scott tweedie returned to Australia for a 1week family holiday, Adam hills has re entered the country multiple times, Kate Langbroek returned to Italy just for the lifestyle. there was a woman on the project the other day having a whinge from hotel quarantine complaining about the process even though she had a job in the Uk and seemed like she was heading right back after Xmas.
Look there are clearly issues with that. But that doesn’t mean others should suffer as a result. What covid has taught us is there is a class system in Australia. If you are rich and have money there are more options for you. I don’t read up about celebrities so I cannot quite comment on it. But I did have an issue with Alan sugar coming here for the apprentice when the show could have easily chosen someone Australian.
Hasn’t Kate Langbroek been living in Italy for the last few years? And only back because her visa was finished in Italy and has a job here? And isn’t Scott tweedie living in New York or LA?
They should open up some more testing sites on the Northern Beaches.
Just saw some drone footage on The Morning Show (Ch7) of one of the queues and it is freakishly long.
NSW citizens and Australians generally can feel justifiably let down by the NSW government. Once deemed “gold star” by the PM and set as an example for Victoria to learn from, they’ve clearly not got things right. It’s the only state with these regular outbreaks in the community and travellers slipping through airports. They are insistent their processes do not need reviewing… clearly they do.
Wonder how Gladys is going to spin this in her press conference today?

The fact that they’re saying it’s an international strain gives me confidence that it’s most likely from the hotel worker who was infected a few weeks ago and travelled on those transportation routes described by NSW health. We just need confirmation of that.
What appears to have happened is that they must’ve unknowingly passed it onto commuters/people who came into contact with them and those passed it on further and further before getting to the Northern beaches and the first two cases are just the tip of the iceberg.
Of course I’m just guessing what happened but it seems very likely that there is a missing link between the two variables which is what needs to be established because not doing so may worsen the cluster.

The PM said yesterday that he “wasn’t worried” because NSW was the “gold standard”. I doubt Dan Andrew’s government would be treated similarly by the Federals and the especially the Murdoch media if a similar thing happened in Melbourne.

Brad Hazzard in particular needs to tone down his “gold standard” rhetoric. Arrogance breeds complacency and i think his words are going to come back to bite.
So far it seems NSW is still making all the same mistakes that other states learned the hard way months ago. The quarantining of airline staff is not as secure as WA and Vic. They are not testing high risk staff like that driver. The QR code system is not as bulletproof as the herald sun/sky news wants us to believe. Seems to me like much of NSW’s relative success until now has come down to good luck.

My money is on a VIP or airline crew who didn’t have to go into hotel quarantine skipping out on their obligation to self-isolate.

Tonight’s Australian Baseball League game between Perth and Canberra has probably been cancelled due to the northern beaches outbreak.

Seems like this is now more serious than outbreaks in Adelaide and Auckland which triggered hard lockdowns.
Which, in hindsight, was a sensible approach. Knowing what the Berejiklian government is like at times, they probably won’t.

The are a lot of factors to evaluate in how serious this is. If most people were infected less than a week ago at the same locations and they are picking up a lot of cases through tracing rather than people being symptomatic, then it might mean they’ve wrapped the wool around it quickly.
Or if all the cases are connected in some ways and it stays within the Northern beaches then it’s not as much of a concern and you can just restrict those areas. However if cases are announced today in areas outside the Northern Beaches or that are more widespread then that is likely to raise alarm.

10 new cases from NSW overnight. They’re still confirming whether all of them are linked to the cluster itself.
Oh 28 cases. That’s not bad. Considering how many people got tested yesterday that’s quite a great figure.
