Unbearable. She just repeats the same anti-Andrews rhetoric over and over again and thinks NSW is the best place in the world with contact tracing whilst trash-talking all other states when they go into lockdown.
When will some ever learn that health is paramount and without health there is no economy and only long-term pain economically and socially. I really can’t fathom how some can’t grasp this fact already.
I understand not going to the extent to what Victoria did last year, but at least advise the public that there will be a large police presence in forcing the stay at home order and not to travel to regional areas.
Yep. If they truly have Regional NSW at heart, John Barilaro and other NSW Nationals MPs would be pushing for a ban on Sydneysiders from leaving the metro area.
It’s absolutely pathetic.
They most likely aren’t, but the leadership positions of Gladys Berejiklian & Brad Hazzard should be extremely tenuous at the moment.
Did you watch? Hazard said if a car load of 5 people come from Sydney to a regional area, that’s $55,000 ($11,000 each), will go to court with the potential of 6 months gaol. He was quite firm in saying this so no doubt it’ll get a run on the 6:00 news.
Quite clearly a scale now of state reactiveness to Covid-19.
On the one end you have WA and Qld which lock down for three days at the first detection of community transmission to end the chain then and there.
You then have Victoria which kinda waits a bit to see the severity of the outbreak and then runs it to ground with a lockdown if necessary (Black Rock is a good example).
Then at the very other end you have NSW, which seems to just fuck around for a couple of weeks despite obvious signs case numbers are exponentially growing, before locking down to mop the mess up only when it becomes crystal clear the situation has spiraled beyond what contact tracers can handle. They’ve gone from two cases a day on subsequent days a week ago to 29 cases today.
It’s all well and good to have the “gold standard” contact tracers, but if they’re being inundated by a daily caseload in the dozens - each with a dozen close contacts themselves - the situation quickly becomes unsustainable. Victoria saw this last year with community transmission bubbling away in the suburbs before the second wave, now NSW is learning you can’t drive a highly infectious disease to ground by asking people to “pretty please” scan QR codes and stand a bit apart.
We saw the Kappa variant run rampant in Melbourne last month and it took two weeks lockdown to drive it to ground. Delta is even worse and I doubt we’re going to see daily case numbers drop for at least a week.
I think we need to remember there are other places around the world that are experiencing cases in the thousands on a daily basis. NSW has done a great job in the past and I am sure they will do a great job here too. We are very critical but every state leaders response has resulted in the virus being eliminated for a large period of time.
A lot have already done a runner. I have two friends who did a runner a few days ago. One who lives and works in Bondi Junction went to the Blue Mountains area. Anorher from inner city Sydney went to their parents’ holiday home near Newcaatle.
We’re only seeing this sort of reaction because we’ve had months and months of the NSW Premier and her cabinet colleagues publicly ridiculing the way other states have gone into lockdown or otherwise handled COVID outbreaks.
