The bloke on 2SSR on Wednesday nights plays some excellent music. However, it’s spoiled somewhat by him commentating during the songs (and yelling out, etc.) Unless the programme can be improved with a timely joke, please don’t do this!

Was this the 6-8pm slot?

Listening to 2SSR in the 8-10pm slot the audio sounds so crappy, like a mono 70’s Akai radio cassette recorder playing in an outback dunny with a microphone located 10 meters away…

lol, I never knew what that sounded like! I will have to try it out

Yeah. His name is Tom Blain.

3mFM back on-air after power cuts to the whole region took us off-air yesterday morning.

The Aboriginal Radio Alliance covered St Kilda-Adelaide clash in Cairns at the weekend, and will broadcast one AFL match per week in season 2022.

I’ve not previously heard of this entity, apparently registered in Sept 2017, but I can’t locate a website for them.

Not sure if anyone from 2RDJ is on here but what’s the point of mentioning what the forecast was meant to be today? May as well give out yesterday’s forecast too. :stuck_out_tongue:
Weather should be: Forecast for rest of day/night → Tomorrow’s forecast (and the weekend if applicable) → Current temps/conditions.

Did they give today’s forecast just then (7pm news?).

I’ve heard Stephen give out the days forecast (as “today was meant to be”) during his drive show. I just think it’s a bit useless by 5/6pm.

At least there isn’t the microphone hum that was there when I last tuned in.

Agree, it’s useless

A recent amendment to the Broadcasting Services Act 1992 brought the Norfolk Island Regional Council owned radio station VL2NI Radio Norfolk under the regulatory control of ACMA. The amendment to the Act authorises the station to operate as a community radio station for another two years, with an extension not possible. However, the Council can apply to ACMA to transfer the licence to another body. It appears that the Federal government is forcing the Council to turn the radio station into a community owned station. The licence:

Appears to be some local competition with Wildpine Broadcasting Association Inc, broadcasting as Pines FM, listed as holding a TCBL for 99.9 FM… though confusingly, its apparatus licence is listed as Not Granted.

They appear to have been operating since 2018, so they too have probably only recently come under ACMA’s control.

The BSLs for these two services are sequential - 1180038 for Pines FM and 1180039 for VL2NI.

HOPE 103.2 had their 6 monthly fund raiser over the past about 10 days, they were looking for about $2.25million & are only about $124,000 short.

Not exactly what I’d call a true community station, that much money could run some community stations for the next 10 years or longer.

They’ve got a number of paid staff, & studios & transmission equipment to rival (even better) most commercial stations, but still.
