To be held from 23ā25 October at Crowne Plaza.
A welcome investment in community media
The 2025ā26 Budget confirms $27 million in additional investment for the sector over three years, including:
$15 million for the Community Broadcasting Program, distributed via the Community Broadcasting Foundation (CBF); and
$12 million for the Indigenous Broadcasting and Media Program, delivered through the National Indigenous Australians Agency.
The CBAAās CEO Jon Bisset today affirmed his initial response:
āThe additional funding announced is sorely needed. The existing programs have not been funded to keep pace with rising costs nor respond to the contemporary challenges and needs of broadcasters.
We are very pleased the Government is responding to stationsā needs with urgency and moving on additional funding now. This new funding will address an evident need for additional Government support. It will ease the pressure on the existing grant funding programs that are struggling to meet the demand from local stations and the communities they serve.ā
Margaret River Radio launches on FM with two hour Ian Smith special
Radio Margaret River (RMR) commences FM broadcasting tonight at 7pm West Australian time with a two hour special from long-time presenter and passionate music historian Ian Smith.
In probably not surprising news, 94.1 FM Gold Coast has been granted another 12 month TCBL. According to the ACMA register of licences database, the previous one was due to expire on March 31st. This extension now grants them another 12 months of broadcasting until 31 Mar 2026.
The community of interest is still listed as āOver 50sā.
Can someone who understands the system better than me explain why 94.1 FM has been on a continuously renewed TCBL for its entire existence and looks set to remain on one for the foreseeable future? Itās been on air for well over a decade now.
I think the ACMA has to make provision for a permanent community service in the LAP, though Iām assuming this has been done with the Gold Coast. Thatās why new licences such as Holbrook and Merimbula start out as TCBLs before the ACMA decides to allocate an additional (permanent) community service.
The rationale for this is so that the aspirant can demonstrate that its service is viable and contributes to an āadequate and comprehensiveā service in the licence area of interest, among other considerations.
I know 94.1 has been on a permanent licence in the past (4JAZ- Radio Hope Island) so am unsure why the current group persists with the TCBL. The current group isnāt the original licensee by my reckoning? Perhaps the ACMA are unwilling to grant a permanent licence for whatever reason, who knows?
I think they were separate⦠Radio Hope Island had callsign 4RHI.
No issue with them starting as a temporary licence, makes perfect sense. But Iād argue over a decade is a little more than temporary - Iām just surprised there hasnāt been a need to formalise them as a permanent licence or move on.
Then again, ACMAās pace on these things certainly gives glaciers a good run for their money (especially in the current climate).
Glad you added that proviso for I was about to add it ![]()
After nights of no signal, 2HHH Hornsby is back on air (for now anyway)ā¦
The temporary Ramadan broadcast in Sydney on 91.6 is off air now; 107.9 remains on air with an open carrier.
Yes, I did a bandscan this afternoon⦠very weak and brief/occasional 91.5 JJJ and 91.7 2ST were noted without it masking them.

- He started by helping with practical tasks like painting, carpentry, and delivering program guides to over 25 postcodes.
- In 1977, he made his broadcasting debut with a tribute program, and soon after began producing his own themed seriesā.
- Owen built a home studio during the COVID-19 pandemic to keep broadcasting uninterrupted.

2OOO-FM 98.5 has a horrible hum / buzz under the audio, was like that yesterday too.. I checked a @tvcl webserver to make sure it wasnāt my reception up here! (thanks!)
Certainly has.
And the audio in current program is horribly distorted too.
Nurse!
Itās been like that for a week or more, I thought maybe someone at the station might notice & fix it, Iām confident itās not a transmitter fault, Iāve just remote logged in & checked it again now & all looks okay.
Iām guessing no one at the station actually listens to it, now also wondering does anyone else outside of some MS members?
Iām on leave all week, but have just left a message with the other TXA techs to contact the 2OOO tech & let him follow it up.
Just listening now, with all that distorted noise the station just sounds very devilish. Hereās a short snippet.
