I’m not 100% sure but I think 4ZZZ had a similarity named show on air many years ago.

As far as I’m aware nobody else uses ‘The Conga Line’ for a drive show. Not saying it’s brilliant but it’s nice to be original.

Since the changes for Noosa relays Noosa FM’s broadcast wave doesn’t look right - more of a plateau than other broadcasts.

Maybe @RFBurns might know what the cause of that is

What changes are you talking about, Mix & Sea FM translators coming on air in Noosa or Noosa FM RDS changes?

To be honest, I’ve never seen an FM spectrum with a flat top like that, maybe one of the other techs here have, @gordo92 @AJ1 considering it’s in your part of the world, any ideas?

It’s like the transmitter has a fault & the peak power isn’t at the carrier frequency, but then the power isn’t spread right across the channel, it looks like it’s still dropping off at the edges like it should, so it’s not like a “digital” square wave.

I doubt it’s this, but it’s like they have a transmitter capable of IBOC HD Radio &/or DRM & it’s been turned on but not set up & the digital sidebands are at the same peak level as the analogue FM, but they are not clearly defined square wave signals beside the (mountain looking) peak analogue FM signal as they should be, they’re mixed together.

To be honest though, it’s not a lot different to the 101.5 signal next to it, just much lower power & therefore the peaks aren’t as clearly defined, the entire channel is almost blending into the noise level between 101.1 & 101.5, but I’m guessing it never looked like that before the changes spoken about?
Was the 101.3 signal strength previously higher & if so how much?

Yes to both as they seemed to happen at the same time. Used to have a similar appearance to the other stations.

Now that sunnier calmer weather is back in NSW (yay!) I just did a bit of a bandscan outdoors.

Some notes on the various audio quality/settings that seem to be new

2HWK Pulse 89.9 - something is horribly wrong with their audio, I can only hear it on their left channel and the right channel is full of noise and glitches? It’s unlistenable.

2CCM Today’s Country 94.1 - now seems to be over deviating, I can hear it on 94.3 even on the TEF radio. That’s not good

2LND Koori Radio 93.7 - not new, but the audio is STILL favouring the left channel, it’s been like this for a few months now and I’m amazed no one at the station has seemingly done anything about it?

Today’s Country 94.1 has been over deviating by a long way for just about as long as it’s been on air, I have previously measured the modulation well over 150% actually up there closer to 200% modulation, I’m not sure it’s ever been at 100% modulation or even under 120%? They seem to have a care factor of 0.

Koori Radio 93.7 will always favour the left channel, it comes from the studio like that, they’ve been told about it a number of times, but they like to run it like that, I’m not sure why?
Depending on the program though, sometimes it’s closer to balanced, other times it is pretty much balanced Left & Right, it’s on the DAB like that, so of course it has to be on the FM as well, seeing as the FM is fed off DAB.

I have in the past tried balancing the FM up before it went into the FM processor, but that screwed things up (the other way) when by chance the channels did align & also screwed up the processing levels, as the AGC among other things works on the total levels Left & Right, so if you bring the Left channel volume down to match the right the overall volume & limiting/clipping will be off, same if you bring the right channel up to meet the left, the input will be too loud & it’ll sound harsh as the processing clips too much, from the studio left needs to come down & little & right needs to come up a little & they meet in the middle at the moment the Left channel is borderline too loud.

Nope got me a bit confused exactly what is going on there to, it’s like the Average Power is been cut off, it’s quite weird

I wonder if it’s actually like that, or if the SDR’s not receiving properly given the relative power of its neighbours? It looks like it’s barely above the noise floor. What does it sound like? Does it decode properly in a mod-monitor?

Reception and sound quality is very good with no static and RDS decoding. Doesn’t seem to be impacting the sound quality.

Noosa - this afternoon -

It’s still just as bad, the audio is distorted, the sound is over to the left and the processing is horrible.
It’s just disgraceful.

It must be intermittent, as it sounded okay again on Thursday afternoon.

I’ll try it again today.

I was on my SDR but I’ll try and get a recording next time.

Just checked, you’re right, now favouring the left channel horribly… almost no audio on the right channel.

Although whilst reported off air for some time here on MS & I can’t find info on its closure, 6EBA 95.3 still has its licence until Dec 10th, 2024 according to ACMA records.
No website anymore though & last Facebook entry was around March 2024.

Does anyone have any goss on this?

Same thing has been happening with 2NUR’s stream the past week or two. good music but the stereo issues is driving me nuts on stream

It Seems Busco (Wayne Buscombe) has been let go from SWR 99.9 and they are now without a breakfast announcer! (at least rumours are circling, from what I’ve heard)

Sad times indeed
