The Coast FM Gosford backup tape doesn’t go through the processor either, so it drops back to mono & no RDS, volume is lower than processed too, that’s how we know it’s on backup tape, that may change at some stage, but it’s a cheap easy way to tell there’s an issue.
4EB was on AM 1485 and 1053 in 1979
They had the runs on the board so to speak.
Switch was a circus operation even when it was a TCBL on 97.3 and lets be complete honest… they got 1197 by default.
Yes Music should be on FM but that doesnt trump 20+ years of service to the community in ACMA eyes
Change to Zetta… and its obviously a bit more complicated for them than they are used to.
Why community stations go with Zetta when they only would use 10% of its features and pay a shit ton of money for it astounds me
They have a Omnia 11 and a Omnia 1
I believe the 1 being onair with its output level to high was some of the issue last week
The 11 was/is away being fixed (as most telos products end up)
There is no likelihood of the ACMA putting 4AAA off air if they keep over modulating with the current Federal Government. If ACMA went there they would be the ones fixing it.
Some community stations yes I agree, places like HOPE 103.2 would use just as many Zetta features as any commercial station, at Coast FM Gosford we have Zetta & use it’s features quite extensively, we even have a number of people at the station who have done the RCS factory training & exams for Zetta & gSelector.
This is very common, especially if you have an Elan CF Player and Elan Composite Switcher (as a lot of community stations do).
Very common and a good solid engineering practice!
Discreet, completely independent paths is the key.
besides that its easy for staff and engineering to know whats going on if its lost stereo and RDS
@gordo92 the level difference was because somebody wound the composite output on the REP-01 up to fladout
Sorry to hear of such news, some mothers definitely do ‘ave ‘em…
Edit: definitely wouldn’t expect this behaviour from any radio station or its members… there is no place for behaviour of such kind in any community, or community radio setting….
Funny you should say that - I worked on and off in broadcasting for 30 years until I was hounded off a project by a rogue broadcaster verbally defaming me, following me around the project, coming onto sites after we had left for the day, not logging in to cover their tracks and making up lies about the work being done etc. Of course some of those cowboys are experts in defamation having been in court on numerous occasions themselves. I finished my career outside broadcasting after that.
A thread on this site about broadcasting employment would be an interesting read if it ever happened.
Tell me, did the tropo gods delivered?
Star 102.7 Cairns with RDS just before all this hell broke loose… at least partial RDS
In the time I have known you we have had great conversations and you really know your stuff, even helped me get a few things fixed under the radar for selfish reasons, but that today threw me.
I hope we can continue our private convos as none will be shared publically, I hope you know that!
You would burn yourself out if it was a solid 30 years in broadcasting without the on and off…
That’s a very important thing, the on and off…
Sorry to hear some mindless morons with not much else going on in their sad existences took you away from something you were passionate about…
I don’t think I would be able to hold back if someone threatened me or my family, I definitely wouldn’t forget… and yeah, just let’s not go anymore into it.
We need to be accountable for what we say.
Words can tend to get minced and construde
Unfortunately that is all too common with broadcasters particularly commercial operators. Some have in house legal counsel who look for anyone to sue in order to recoup their bloated salaries. Be very cautious about doing any broadcasting work off an ABN unless you can find professional indemnity insurance that applies to the work you are doing.
Going back years some of the flunkies that worked for the old rich blokes that controlled these shitshows had an attitude that they controlled who worked in the industry and often hounded people out of the industry: I have actually been present when one of these cowboys threatened a bloke ‘I will make sure you never work in the TV industry again’ - funny really because the old rich bloke eventually sacked the cowboy.
This thread is a timely waning about the downsides of working for or with broadcasters.
Yeah couldnt believe the catch… I had it on autoscan just inspecting some rds on Hot Tomato… and it stopped on 102.7 partial STAR decode then gibberish. Heard the ID soon after then the texts started
It is clear to me that the people at 4AAA are unhinged
- they should leave technology to the people that know what they are doing
- if they are going to threaten and abuse people then clearly they aren’t fit to hold a broadcast license
its just gutless and yellow to threaten peoples employment over text message… grow up
call or text me with threats and watch what happens
@Parex11 and @gordo92 dont let these people affect you… nobody here did anything remotely wrong.
@Parex11 it wouldnt be the first time the radio industry has driven somebody to suicide / thoughts of… hang in there mate
Im noticing more and more community radio stations treating people badly.
Next time they have issues, I wont make any calls… lets just report them to ACMA and they can deal with their vitriol
Never had a radio decent enough, at least since the one my pop gave me as a kid die, at my disposal to be able to catch anything decent, I can imagine the thrill tho having it beam in from wherever your dxing. Nice catch
Sadly this happens in many non-profits like community radio, churches and sporting clubs: Once these organisations start burning volunteers it’s really the beginning of the end for them.
Re nasty stuff from community broadcasters, it is probably prudent to forward what has come your way to the committee who run the station and also forward them on to any sponsors that you can contact or know someone at.
Most bullies only pick soft targets and scream blue murder when someone gives them a black eye. If more people stood up to them there would be less of them around.
DXing is like fishing to me… it’s the thrill of the catch… and that I love numbers, geography and music and it’s a perfect blend of the three,
