Licensed to broadcast?
Looks like ACMA didn’t grant the apparatus license to me.

Thanks for the heads up on this :slightly_smiling_face:. I didn’t look up current status in ACMA RRF, just reflecting(ed) on earlier licence schedule.

Easy mistake to make, one accidently slipped out on the fresh mix this morning, realised that I ripped the entirety of John Farnham’s greatest hits, and the last track on the CD was a song about rejoycing for the season. I just pondered, 2 christmas songs out of 17,000 is not going to be the end of the world. I guess it would be somewhat hilarious if he had the hundred greatest xmas songs in there, that would be something different. I suspect he’s just ripped Boney M’s greatest hits. Many of the best of compilations from back then always had at least one xmas song tacked on at the end, in most cases one has whinned them out, but I suppose one can still slip through.

Noted tonight that 103.7 4MBS is carrying another program (Vietnamese language) on its 67kHz MPX subcarrier. I didn’t realise there were remaining FM broadcasters still using 67kHz or 92kHz FM BCB SCA / ACS subcarriers in this country still using this technology to carry these extra services on their FM signal.

I can think of 107.9 Move FM using 76kHz for a data service & then there’s 57kHz used for RDS across many stations here.

Anyone know of any other FM broadcasters still using these FM SCA (2nd program subcarriers) in Australia?

Does Fine Music 102.5 have one? I remember a long time ago noticing a weird glitch with the station where underneath the program on air I could pick up another language program, however it only happened on one particular radio I had,

Can anyone else can verify if 89.9fm in the Hawkesbury has been nothing but static since 12pm yesterday?

Many years ago they did, along with 2SER & 2CBA but all long gone.

BTW 103.7 4MBS are also transmitting another SCA on 92kHz with some kind of oldies music format, sounded like 30’s music! So that’s Vietnamese on 67kHz & Oldies music on 92kHz.

Easy to receive these with 2 instances of a SDR program & a virtual audio cable, although I found it difficult to decode 92kHz due to being on the extreme end of my soundcard sampling rate. Need to use 192kHz sampling for SCA 67kHz decoding.

Yes I can verify that’s the case, noted yesterday arvo & this morning. I assume this is the slot that ‘Hawkesbury Gold’ originally had prior to the now defunct merge with ‘Hawk FM’. I expect a transmission will return today at noon with Pulse.

Yes it was an Indian language channel, receivable at low levels on the Sony XDR tuners on 102.4 and 102.6 (but always mixed with the primary 2MBS signal). It has been gone for a fair while, but was definitely on air for the first few years after I got the Sony (so 2009-2011/12).

I seem to recall 3ZZZ Melbourne had one as well back in a similar era, it might have relayed the BBC World Service or something similar. Not sure if it’s still a thing there now or not

I think 2GO Gosford had Coles supermarket radio or similar on its sub carrier (well before the DAB channel was a thing). Interestingly, subcarriers are extensively used in the US to provide RPH services; our open access RPH stations on the regular AM/FM bands are somewhat unique in that regard.

CUrrently listening to Billy Bob on Braidwood FM, and OMG, hearing National lampoons from Lindsay Buckingham for the first time in about 30 years, sweet ear candy.

Glad you enjoyed it. Felt it appropriate considering the public holidays and the migration from Canberra to the coast.

No worries, thanks for the inspiration, finally had a good dig around the net today, and downloaded a flac of “holiday road” for my collection. Your missing six from 1987 was great to listen to as well, all hot tunes from the near end of my teen years; one was in year eleven when these charted. My fave at the time, or should I confess was the Cockroaches “Let’s go”, The wrong songs was an interesting concept, but at the end of that bracket, life called, and never really heard the rest of your show, but again, awesome job with the 80s and the more weirder stuff. :).

Just chucking it out there as shameless self-promotion…
I present “Face The Music” on Goulburn Community Radio 103.3FM on Friday evenings 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Bit of an eclectic mix of stuff.Requests taken, although in recent weeks, I don’t think anyone has been listening lol.
Stream through ramfm.com.au
Alternatively, on Wednesday evenings 6:00pm to 8:00pm, I’m a sidekick for Daz on “Soniq Sounds” on Highland FM Bowral 107.1FM. We just muck around, talk rubbish and play a song or six.
That show can be streamed on highlandfm.org.au or through iHeart radio.

I tuned into Soniq Sounds once not long ago and enjoyed it. Always looking at what other folk are doing around SE NSW. I will tune into your Ram FM show. Believe it or not you sometimes get hammered by 103.2 Sydney here in Bungendore!

Although not mentioned 89.9 Hawkesbury is on air ATM during the Sat Noon to Sun Noon time slot with back-to-back pop songs but no announcements.
This is the time slot previously occupied by Hawkesbury Gold.
The programming is different to what Hawkesbury Gold is streaming.

Looking at old records & comparing with current measurements; the current MPX signature looks very similar to the equipment used by Hawkesbury Gold back in mid 2021.

Also looking at Hawkesbury Gold Facebook page pic there’s maybe subtle hints that Hawkesbury Gold could be back on 89.9 in May 2022, but I could be wrong.

About a week ago whilst driving in northern Sydney I noted a 2nd signal on 89.9, underneath Pulse FM. Not sure who it was.

I will tune in as well. Definitely cannot tune in via FM in Sydney. Often wondered why 103.2 FM was selected and not 103.3 FM IN Sydney.

I think it was something to do with harmonic interference with Channel 7?

But then 4MBS didn’t seem to have any issues with co-existing alongside BTQ7 in Brisbane (though they did change from 103.3 to 103.7 in 1989).

I think it was harmonic interference with TCN9. @TV-Expert would know more I suspect.
