Meet Flower & Flour: The delightful new duo on ABC Kids

The ABC is thrilled to announce Flower & Flour, a brand new animated series from Cheeky Little Media and Sinking Ship Entertainment, will premiere at 7:45am on Monday 16 March on ABC Kids and ABC iview.

Featuring the voices of Simone Kessell, Rachel House, Nazeem Hussain, Rob Shehadie, Jacek Koman and Angela Tran, Flower & Flour is a laugh-out-loud buddy comedy celebrating friendship, family and the magic of community. Created by Dan Mansour, the series is inspired by the childhoods of Dan and his wife, who grew up in Western Sydney.

Flower is a curious seven-year-old with a giant imagination and an even bigger heart. She lives above her parents’ bustling Austrian dumpling restaurant in the middle of a multicultural neighbourhood. And right by her side is her best friend Flour, a cheeky cat made of flour.

Inside the restaurant and at home, Flower and Flour spin the ordinary into the extraordinary – a spring clean with Mum and Dad becomes a quest with castles and knights, a sleepy bedtime story is hijacked by Flower’s imagination, and a rainy afternoon transforms into a mission to fix the sky. Step outside into the plaza and the adventures grow even bigger. From helping Unicorn Cuzzy recover her fading unicorn powers, to staging an epic soccer match worthy of the World Cup.

Flower & Flour shows kids that wonder is waiting right outside their door, and that life is brighter and funnier when we share it with each other.

ABC to reboot iconic children’s series Bananas in Pyjamas with modern twist

Today the ABC has announced a fresh adaptation of the beloved children’s series Bananas in Pyjamas, marking the first production to be confirmed under the Federal Government’s three‑year funding allocation announced late last year.

Produced for the ABC in South Australia by Windmill Production Company, the award‑winning team behind Beep and Mort, the new live‑action series will draw on the studio’s expertise in puppetry and physical performance.

The new series will stay true to the whimsical spirit of the original and introduce mischievous twins B1 and B2 to a new generation of young viewers. Set once again in the friendly neighbourhood of Cuddles Avenue, the series invites children into a playful world filled with music, humour, role‑playing and invention.

The show was originally inspired by a song that became popular on Play School in the 1970s. The original live-action Bananas in Pyjamas made its television debut on the ABC in 1992 and quickly became a hit with preschoolers in Australia and around the world. The series ran until 2001 before shifting to a computer‑animated format.

ABC Director Screen Jennifer Collins: “Bananas in Pyjamas has long held a cherished place in Australian children’s television, delighting generations of families. With the support of additional funding, we’re thrilled to reimagine this playful series full of heart and humour for today’s young viewers in partnership with Windmill Production Company.”

Windmill Production Company Executive Director, Kaye Weeks: “My 18-year-old daughter went to her high school graduation dressed as one of the Bananas which goes to show how beloved these characters are in the Australian cultural canon. We are absolutely thrilled to be rebooting this iconic sitcom for preschoolers and boosting B1 and B2’s much-deserved celebrity status into the future.”

School’s back! Iconic ABC series Little Lunch returns with a brand-new class

The ABC, BBC and the Australian Children’s Television Foundation (ACTF) are thrilled to announce Little Lunch: New Class, a brand-new chapter of the smash-hit children’s series from Gristmill, the producers behind much loved ABC titles Upper Middle Bogan, The InBestigators, Summer Love and The Librarians.

A decade after the groundbreaking mockumentary first captured the chaos and comedy of the Aussie playground for 15 minutes every day at recess, Little Lunch: New Class introduces six new students – Adelaide, Ivy, Mason, Steve, Bonnie and Arthur – as they navigate friendship, misunderstandings and the big emotions of small people.

Fan favourite Heidi Arena (Audrey’s Kitchen, The Librarians) returns as the ever-patient Mrs Gonsha. The years may have passed, but as this new class quickly discovers, the emotional hurdles of the playground remain timeless.

With its signature mockumentary style, Little Lunch: New Class will explore the themes that matter most to kids – belonging, fairness, loyalty and resilience – with sharp humour, warmth and heart.

Creators Robyn Butler and Wayne Hope said, “It’s been eleven years since we first brought Danny Katz and Mitch Vane’s Little Lunch universe to the screen, which is an actual lifetime (if you’re a character in the show). We can’t wait to bring this new series to the world.”

ABC Head of Children & Family, Melinda Wearne said, “Little Lunch captured the Australian childhood experience with honesty, heart, and humour, and is so loved by Australian audiences. We’re thrilled to have a wonderful new series for children and their families to meet the new class and share in their stories.”

Sarah Muller, Senior Head of Commissioning 7+, BBC Children’s and Education said, “Little Lunch is a series that continues to resonate so strongly with young audiences. Reviving this iconic show allows us not only to celebrate what made the original so special, but also to introduce today’s kids to the full breadth of content across BBC Children’s & Education and stories that inspire, support and reflect their worlds in entertaining and meaningful ways.”

Bernadette O’Mahony, ACTF Head of Content said, “Being back in the Little Lunch universe with Gristmill over the past couple of years has been a delight. Children and parents alike will love Mrs Gonsha’s new class of Grade 5’s, who are just as loveable, quirky and real. This series continues the Little Lunch tradition of warm, relatable, hilarious stories, and we can’t wait for children all over the world to fall in love with this new class of characters.”

VicScreen CEO Caroline Pitcher said, “The enduring popularity of Little Lunch proves just how brilliantly Victorian screen talent can create stories that entertain and inspire young audiences. We’re thrilled to support Gristmill and a fresh generation of emerging local talent to make a new season of Little Lunch in Victoria, creating jobs for Victorian screen workers and injecting over $14 million into the local economy. We can’t wait to be part of Little Lunch: New Class.”

Little Lunch: New Class will air on the ABC in 2027. Catch up on the original Little Lunch on ABC iview now.
