Cada

I mean, CADA has made headlines for the first time since launching give or take 4 years ago

This is the worrying part of the article.

“Within an hour of uploading the voice samples, the synthetic version was live.”

So it now takes just 1hr to build a metro radio announcer with AI from scratch.

RIP all of us.

… Mind you, just imagine how much better Thy would sound if they had dedicated 2hrs to creating the AI announcer!? Maybe nobody would’ve realised …

Thanks for uploading this.

As a semi-regular-ish CADA listener, the thing that makes me instantly switch off isn’t AI girl, but the annoying repetitive promo “two minutes with DJ Nino Brown”. It’s the exact same 120 seconds of audio that has been firing off hourly for at least the past 6 months.

Appears twice during that 3hr sample (00:59:00 & 2:00:18), but feels so much more frequent in real life. Drives me crazy!

The real issue is how CADA is now just not even thought of and people seemingly not even aware if anyone is even on air there anymore.

ARN have killed it off. Like they’re doing to TTFM

Same. Listening to Cada a few times in the time that Thy is on, I’ve never even heard her, or it but that promo, I’ve heard it 100 times or something.

Have they pulled Thy off the back of the scrutiny?

It wasn’t really scrutiny. They just put out a statement saying they’ve been using AI for months.

Yes “scrutiny”, they wish

It’s a bit disingenuous to say they’ve got something after only an hour - they’re building a more localised model off a master that’s probably had hundreds of hours of effort.

Interesting that CADA have updated their Thy show page to now mention:

*Thy makes use of AI for her radio show

Workdays with Thy

Still trying to make it sound human. Thy is not making use of AI. Thy is AI!

Thy is AI! Thy is AI! Why won’t ARN understand that? Hear me loud and clear ARN! :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I don’t see why it has to be a cover up? Why can’t CADA embrace that they’re Australia’s first commercial station to feature an AI announcer?

I’d be shouting it from the rooftop as a sign of innovation. Yes, there are haters. But they’ll hate you even more for not being upfront.

They could even have CADA Breakfast cross to the AI jock to chat about what’s coming up in Workdays.

Be the innovator. Not a cost-cutting secret.

Innovation died the moment K&JO walked in :stuck_out_tongue:

And the moment Mike E and Emma walked out.

According to Calum Jaspan’s media column in The Age and SMH, it looks like Cada will discontinue its AI announcer experiment, with ARN chief Ciaran Davis “absolutely” a believer in shows being hosted by real people.

If the CEO believes this, then how did they get to air in the first place?

It’s called we need our two shareholders to not bail on us because we’re done for if they do

I suspect their little experiment has failed. The AI announcer on Cada could’ve been a test to see if it could work elsewhere. Then you could get rid of all human announcers that areen’t K&JO and Christian.
