Is there footage of the ident?
Interesting directions of aerials atop the old NBN building.
I’d love to see 7Regional do some idents in a similar style for the regional centres they cover.
Oddly enough Brisbane’s first TV transmission point of the Old Windmill at Wickham Tce is also in the footage: A bloke named Tom Elliott ran a Nipkow disk Tx on VHF in the 1930’s from there. The Tx and Rx are in the Historical Society museum in William St now. Resolution was only a couple of dozen lines and you had to manually sync the Rx motor speed to the Tx
And that bottom one looks to be for Bald Hill, which only ever had NEN-0 and ABUN-2 analogue, no NBN.
That may well have been there before NBN moved in.
Tell you a story about the Old NEN Channel 0 repeater in Tamworth, It was relayed Off-Air from from Mt Dowe Channel 9 and on nights of troppo from the north it would re-Broadcast QTQ-9 from Brisbane when NEN-9 would turn off the TX on Mt-Dowe instead of shutting down with the Mt Dowe TX
PS when Tamworth got Aggregation NEN didn’t have a signal from Mt Soma for the first 15 odd years as they already had translators at Tamworth & Quirindi (Mt Soma is In-between the two)
Makes you wonder why they didn’t just run a microwave link from the Tamworth studios to Bald Hill.
I wouldnt be surprised if it was getting the competition from Mt Cenn-Cruich - before digital, it wasnt that hard in parts of Tamworth
Cenn Crauich is/was vertical and is VHF Band II (not I).
Not a chance Cenn Cruaich was vertical channel 5 (ABC) before moving to channel 11 when aggregation happend in 1989 so the Cenn Cruaich analogue channels were
Prime VHF 6 (Vertical)
ABC VHF 11 (Vertical)
WIN UHF 32 (Horizontal)
Capital UHF 35 (Horizontal)
Anyone note the mistake at 4:20?
The call sign should be ABKW6
We got a brief glimpse at the 9News setup in the Jubilee Pavilion at this year’s Royal Adelaide Show.
Can’t remember if 9News have broadcast from the Show before, 7News used to have a temporary set there years ago for show-goers to present their own “live cross” until their contribution was downsized to that little shipping container that’s ping-ponged between cities.
10 used to do the full news bulletin from the show for the week during the 90s and then have three out of four presenters there during the 2000s. Graphics were always show themed, including the opening titles one year from memory.
Sadly those days are long gone.
Yesterday i toured Wimbledon and got to see the old media center. it is currently being pulled down and replaced with a more modern facility.
it features banks of desks, each with a screen. they are allocated to individual outlets - i saw screens for both SMH and Nine.
the redevelopment is expected to take 2 years (so will not be ready for next years competition) but will move the production of the championships away from the BBC needing to bring in OB trucks to having on site production facilities. As Wimbledon is 14 miles out of London they previously used satellite trucks, but this will be replaced with IP links.
This will have the advantage of allowing rights holding broadcasters to be able to (in the words of my tour guide) “plonk down a camera, plug it in and be on air - it will be that simple”
heres a picture of the rather drab current centre.
later in the week i’m touring Lords so i’ll try and ger pics in the media centre there
Very cool!
I also got a chance to see the old media centre at Wimbledon when I was in London in January 2018. Nothing had changed in the four years since then. Pleased to hear it will be redeveloped.
