Broadcast Facilities

You wouldn’t think it’s an Eastern Sydney Centric Network.

So much diversity at Channel 7 :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Here’s a layout of how Level 1 of the Flower Street studio facility (the current Three/Newshub/Warner Bros. Discovery NZ facility, that is) in Eden Terrace, Auckland, looks like. Level 1 is in the basement of the facility but has vehicle access off Korari Street.

@OnAir @theGradyConnell @NaruTVMock Please note that this is a rough approximation of the layout and may not be 100% correct. This is based on my visit to Newshub way back in 2021 (see below). If you think the diagrams are incorrect, please let me know.

The loading dock used to be home to the Social Media bunker from Paul Henry days now it houses the desks not in use

@theGradyConnell Thanks for the additional info! Plus, the loading dock also played host to various TV3/Three programmes over the years - such as Ya Hoo, Ice As (the continuation of Ice TV under a different name), The Panel and Jono and Ben (at Ten) - and acted as an extra television studio.

The rough approximation of the previous layout has just been updated, although it may not be 100% correct. Furthermore, an outside broadcast (OB) unit used to be located inside the loading dock if the studio control room was unavailable at the time.

For instance, Melody Rules (the worst sitcom in the history of NZ TV) was recorded in Studio 2 which was progressively small to house multiple sets, according to series director Michael Robinson. The action was shot with three cameras and vision switched (compiled at the time of recording from the three camera shots provided) from the OB unit in the loading dock. There was also no live studio audience; the pre-recorded laugh tracks were only added in post production.

Got the chance to walk past Seven’s old Martin Place studios this evening. This is what is left of it…

Sad to see it like that.

They have kind of lost that NBC Rockefeller Center feel not being there anymore.

Thanks for the photos! Yes, a shadow of its former self unfortunately. Thought the 7 logo would be gone by now. Apparently not :stuck_out_tongue:.

Edit: Glad to see the blinds aren’t down!

I reckon everything will be gone, with the next tenant (whoever it is) moving in by year’s end at the earliest.

If this site is anything to go by, then it could be an Apple store, but I wouldn’t bank on it given there is already one not far away, on George Street.

Along with Bendigo (ex-TV8 studios), fairly certain this is the last SCA building actually owned by the company

There’s also Launceston. They tried to sell it a few years ago but as far as I know the sale never eventuated and they decided to stay put.

Looks like they had another crack at selling last year and found a buyer.

A drones-eye view of the 10 News room in Sydney in 2013

Just as interesting would be any behind-the-scenes shots from the time TEN-10 had those incredibly tight angle shots for its July 2011-June 2012 news set (in which the outside area wasn’t sighted, before the newsroom was seen once again from June 4, 2012).
