Bondi Shopping Centre Incident

A what? Or is that just word play…

On Gem NSW (and presumably QLD) they were running 10 mins behind schedule then the Getaway repeat ran at 10:10 instead of midday then a Nine-supported doco repeat Lavender Hill Mob (I think that was the title) ran at 10:40. The Footy Show (AFL) ran from 11:40.

Surprised he accused Laura of basically kicking things off, especially given her knowing the mum that was killed and paying tribute to her on air. At least he apologised on Twitter for it, a lot of journalists wouldn’t have done the same.

So I wonder if it will just be an apology on X or he’ll do it on-air as well?

Depends if ABC management asks him to. IMO they should do a brief quick apology at the start of the show.

Australian Financial Review reports that Ben Cohen, who was wrongly identified by Seven as the attacker, is considering to sue the network for defamation.

UPDATE

Ben has engaged two of Australia’s foremost defamation lawyers in Patrick George of Giles George as his solicitor, and Sue Chrysanthou SC as barrister.

I now live overseas but I used to go to WBJ all the time when I was a uni student at UNSW.

I’ve been watching all the major networks and it’s astonishing after a decade away how poor the quality of Seven’s product has become.

The one that really got me was Ann Sanders reading out “Bondi Junction Westfields” to introduce a story yesterday. Does she not write her own scripts anymore?

I know it’s a small thing, but when one of the most tenured presenters can’t even name the location correctly and professionally you suddenly become less surprised they’re willing to just blurt out an innocent person’s name without any fact checking.

I feel like seven is becoming FOX News??

That’s a little dramatic.

Ann wouldn’t have written her own scripts in decades. No anchor does.

Maybe review would have been a better word.

It’s just embarrassing watching Seven Ron Burgundy it.

She’d be on air. Plus maybe she thinks that’s what it’s called.

Westfield will be open tomorrow. But not the individual stores as a day of reflection.
The individual stores will be back and running on Friday.

Yeah, people often butcher the name of locations, brands etc without getting it totally wrong.

My mum and others are constantly calling Myer, ’Myers’ like there’s actually and S on the end.

Not a big deal in the scheme of things.

Yeah, I think most people call it “Bondi Westfields” anyway.

The important part is that what she said was correct and understandable.

I get they’re a tabloid brand - I’m not going to criticize “Maccas announces a new Big Mac sauce”. People understand that.

But I do think basic copywriting does matter. When you don’t pay attention to the small stuff you end up becoming laissez faire about the bigger issues. As we’ve seen.

The legendary BBC Presenter Anna Ford covers it in this wonderfully wide ranging interview.

Ann may have also had a slip of the tongue because it was a big developing stressful situation and she’s almost 70 years old.
