The ACMA has requested that Australian internet service providers (ISPs) block more illegal online gambling and affiliate sites, after investigations found these services to be operating in breach of the Interactive Gambling Act 2001.

Embattled Star Entertainment has surprisingly received overwhelming support from shareholders as they back in millions of dollars of pay for the top boss and approve the Bally’s lifeline.

In a vote of confidence towards the board of directors, shareholders have approved the remuneration report, which means a $7.5m pay packet for chief executive Steve McCann.

With shareholders overwhelmingly voting in favour of the proposal, Star Entertainment has importantly avoided a second strike.

During her address before the meeting, Star Entertainment chair Anne Ward told shareholders the takeover by casino giant Bally’s was under way and would be completed next week.

Casino manager David Littler, who started as a 22-year-old blackjack dealer on opening night in 1985, will retire exactly 40 years to the day since he first walked into the venue then known as Burswood Island Casino.

David Littler said that they had a soft launch on December 20, but it officially opened on December 30, 1985.
