The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has been seeking a new broadcast licensing agreement for the better part of 2025 – an all-important strategic partnership and revenue source that keeps the AMPAS coffers full, and the industry focused on glorifying movies for theaters as the highest art form in the town (anything else happen today that could threaten theatrical movies?). The Academy is seeking a deal term of 5-10 years for its next contract, numerous sources said.

SAG Awards have changed its name to Actor Awards

From what i watched on 10 last night, i thought that the Golden Globe Awards ran smoothly overall, despite the many awards given out. Film’s Drama and Comedy/ Musical awards, to TVs Drama, Comedy and Miniseries categories. Not many irrelevant banter between each award, thank goodness. I thought host Nikki did an overall good job in hosting too.

Australian actors Jacob Elordi and Rose Byrne have both received Oscars nominations, while Sinners broke the record for Academy Award nods with 16.

The nominations for the 98th Academy Awards were officially announced on Thursday, with Byrne up for best actress in a leading role for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You and Elordi nominated for his supporting actor role in Frankenstein.

But it was the gothic vampire film Sinners that garnered the most attention, with a historic total of 16 nominations, including for best picture, cinematography and screenplay.

One Battle After Another and Sinners lead the 2026 BAFTA nominations with 14 and 13 nods, respectively.

‘Thanks for your understanding’: Truth behind shock BAFTAs moment

A “painfully unfunny” BAFTAs host Alan Cumming was overshadowed by an audience member shouting profanities, forcing him to apologise.

Alan Cumming has thanked the audience at the EE BAFTA Film Awards for their understanding following a series of outbursts from Tourette’s campaigner John Davidson during the ceremony.

BAFTA-nominated film I Swear, starring Robert Aramayo, was inspired by Davidson’s own life and his journey since being diagnosed at the age of 25.

“You may have noticed some strong language in the background. This can be part of how Tourette’s syndrome shows up for some people as the film explores that experience,” Cumming told the audience.

It comes after a number of outbursts and slurs could be heard during the prestigious award ceremony, including the “n-word” being called out to presenters Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo.

At another point, “shut the f**k up” could be heard while BAFTA chair Sara Putt was on stage.
