This design may have its origin with Gannett stations in the U.S.:
Several Australian station used Fast Action by De Wolfe Music as their news theme:
The theme was also used by a few local stations in the U.S.:
Quite a few stations. ATN7, GTV9, NRN11/RTN8 and NWS9. Not sure if any other TV stations used it but 6IX Perth used it as well.
Here’s Outlook on GMV6…
…using a theme, Industrial Power by Bruton Music, that was also used by the Independent Network News in the U.S.:
Saw this as an intro to a film on Netflix the other night

Which sounds familiar…

Very common bit of stock music, from memory it even pops up in an episode of South Park.
In a reverse borrowing, here’s Albania’s Klan from 2008 ripping off the ABC News open from that era:
WJLA an ABC America affiliate had the circle 7 logo variant from the 90s
WJLA used it from 1984-98.
I grew up with that logo. Imagine if seven still had it?
I think the Seven Network could’ve used it for a few more years.
Using iMovie stock music
You could run it now, but that’s because the retro look is in - in 2000 when Seven changed things were different and many businesses were using the new Millenium to refresh their branding.
Another “familiar” news open, this time from RASD-TV, broadcasting from Algeria to Moroccan-occupied Western Sahara:
I don’t think it was a ‘rip-off’, per-se…
I’ve seen other news organisations using an identical graphics package (with the shiny glossy globe thing) to the ABC News one of that era - I suspect the ABC just purchased something off the shelf.
Kinda expect that too, myself. (ABC was crowing at the time about the new theme, including wanting to use it on radio [we all know how that went down] that they could only afford to use off-the shelf graphics? Who knows.)
Reminded of Austria’s Puls 4 (owned by ProSieben-Sat.1) using that template for their newscast titles in 2008, albeit with a slightly different ending at least: Puls 4, News, 10.04.2008 - YouTube
Austria is not huge but P7S1 is hardly small either. I’m not sure that was used for too long though (a couple of years?) before the parent company brought in an “AustriaNews” brand to unite the Austrian-targeted news services for Puls 4 and the Austrian versions of Sat.1 and ProSieben.
