Nine announces major sponsors for Australian Ninja Warrior 2020 Season

Nine has named its major sponsors for the adrenaline-packed 2020 season of Australian Ninja Warrior.

The fourth season of the global Ninja Warrior phenomenon will see the return of major brands including Energizer and KFC, with new sponsors including Sanofi, Aldi and Nutri-Grain also joining the program.

“Australian Ninja Warrior is a powerhouse format that dominates the demographics and has a real influence to bring families around the television,” says Nine’s Director of Powered, Liana Dubois.

“This makes it a brilliant format for our clients. We are very excited to be partnering with our returning brands and thrilled to have new brands join us on board another action-charged season of Australian Ninja Warrior.”

World-leading battery manufacturer Energizer, returning in its second year, will have on-ground branding with The Power Tower occurring at the end of each heat and semi-final, where for the first time it will be Ninja versus Ninja, as the two furthest and fastest Ninjas each night strive for a game-changing advantage. Energizer will also receive branded logo associated with an on-screen timer shown during Ninja runs, a bespoke, integrated billboard featuring their famous animated Mr Energizer, and an interactive digital fireplace game.

Shivani Maharaj, National Head of Content & Partnerships, Wavemaker, said: “Ninja Warrior is one of Australia’s most loved TV shows and perfectly encapsulates Energizer’s values of power, performance and endurance. We are thrilled to see the brand new obstacle, The Power Tower, come to life and believe that 2020 is set to be an amazing year for Ninja Warrior.

“Completing production during the pandemic was challenging, but Nine, Powered and Endemol Shine have demonstrated agility and flexibility. The production community deserves a medal for how they are adapting shows, especially those that rely on a live audience.

“We’ve seen what has successfully been done on The Voice and now we will see it on Australian Ninja Warrior. We couldn’t have asked for better partners to work with at this time and we are delighted for Wavemaker and Energizer to be a part of it.”

Nine’s Powered Studios will help design integrated TV commercials for its first partnership with Sanofi Consumer Healthcare this year, covering five of their winter brands: Cenovis, Nature’s Own, Betadine, Bisolvon and Mersynofen. They will position their suite of products as “The Winter Superheroes”, as well as leveraging the Australian Ninja Warrior brand through logo association across POS, digital and print, leaning into their “Winter Superheroes” campaign.

Aldi, another major brand coming on board for the first time, will have branded logos appearing on digital perimeter screens alongside the obstacle course and also across the on-screen leader and hero boards.

Returning for its fourth year, KFC will also have branded logos on digital perimeter screens and crowd incidentals with branded foam fingers. Additionally, KFC has commissioned Powered Studios to create a new digital content series called “Thrills and Spills” on the official Australian Ninja Warrior website, with branded playout in-program to drive the series.

“To celebrate our ongoing partnership with Ninja Warrior, we’ll be showcasing all the Ninjas’ nailbiting, risk-taking and go-for-it moments in our new digital content series, ‘Thrills and Spills’. To all the Ninjas: fire up, unleash your free spirits, and we look forward to celebrating with you at the top of Mt Midoriyama,” Kristi Woolrych, Chief Marketing Officer, KFC Australia, said.

Joining in its first year, Nutri-Grain will have an integrated back story in-program featuring footage of Ironman and Ironwoman competitors. Nutri-Grain-branded logo will appear on the digital perimeter screens alongside the obstacle course and be visible during the Ninja runs. REA, AAMi and Ahm will also leverage the power of Australian Ninja Warrior through billboard association.

The Ninjas are back on Sunday with without Bec Maddern for the first two episodes after she had to go into self-isolation due to a positive test by Today co-star Richard Wilkins. Shane Crawford stepped in to co-host with Ben Fordham. The crowd size was also reduced for the show.

What’s with the old Nine watermark i’ve been seeing recently?

That’s just for copyright of publicity and network screeners.

OK, thanks.

Shane takes over for Freddie as well after a few episodes

SEASON 4 OVERVIEW

New Obstacles:

  • Power Tower: The night’s two fastest Ninjas go head-to-head for the chance to win a time advantage for the semi-finals. Ninjas will need to race up five steps, each 1.5m high. At the top they leap 2.35m to the first bar, then traverse 4.5m across the bars to the vertical pole, which they will slide down to an unsteady horizontal beam 3m long, making it a difficult traversal between the vertical poles. Ninjas then must climb up the 5.5m high pole to lache bars and lache 1.75m to the horizontal ladder before leaping back to the platform.
  • Tic Toc to Net: Ninjas must use the mini tramp to leap onto the pendulum 1.7m away, then use the pendulum’s momentum to swing and leap onto the cargo net.
  • Doorknob Drop: Ninjas grab a series of doorknobs along a board which will drop suddenly when they reach the last two knobs. The doorknob-to-doorknob gap is 750mm.
  • Snake Run: Ninjas run across six small circular pads, angled to direct them away from the platform. The first step is 1.1m from the platform.
  • Diving Boards: Ninjas run across the three boards to reach the landing platform. It is 1.8m to the first board, 1.8m to the next and 2.5m to the last one.
  • Ring Turn: Ninjas make their way across three rings, the first two of which are large rings with a locking device. Once locked in, Ninjas can progress to the next ring.
  • Slingshot: Arguably the toughest ever semi-final obstacle with seven bungee slingshots requiring seven laches. The slingshot is made from bungee, so it drops when you land. Numbers 1, 2 and 3 increase in height, in 3-4 there is a one metre drop, and then 5, 6 and 7 increase in height. They are all 78cm apart.
  • Barrel Roll: Ninjas jump for the bar on the first barrel, then swing the rotating barrel to gain momentum to lache to the bar on the second barrel. From there they climb up the bars on that barrel until they can access the final handle and swing down, launching themselves over the wall.
  • Ferris Wheel: Two large wheels each with 12 handles. Ninjas must work their way across the wheels to reach the landing platform.
  • Spin Hopper: There are three sections to this hands-only obstacle. The first section is angled upwards with five handles, the second section is straight with one handle and the third section is angled downward with five handles.

THE GENERAL RULES

  • Ninjas can never use the scaffolding
  • Ninjas cannot return to the platform once they have left it (unless otherwise specified)
  • Ninjas cannot touch the water with any part of their body or clothing (even if it has fallen off their person)
  • Exiting/falling off an obstacle results in a disqualification (DQ)
  • There is no dress rehearsal; the first time the Ninjas try the course is when they step up to the plate
  • It’s not gender-biased; the course is exactly the same for men and women every season
  • When someone falls, it’s a splashout not a wipeout

PRIZEMONEY

  • The Ninja who goes furthest fastest in the Grand Final wins and takes home $100,000
  • The Ninja who conquers Mt Midoriyama will win the title

Is Rebecca Maddern still on this? Was Shane Crawford always a part of this?

No he wasn’t. Where have you been?

Rebecca had to go in to quarantine because she came into contact with Richard Wilkins, when he contracted coronavirus. Later in the season Freddie Flintoff leaves to go back to the UK before lockdown and Shane replaces him too.

You mean Freddie Flintoff?

Last night’s episode, Shane Crawford was on the show, replacing Rebecca Maddern. Rebecca Maddern had to self isolate because he was near Richard Wilkins (who he tested positive for Coronavirus). Tonight episode, Shane Crawford filled for Rebecca.

Goes to show that I’ve never watched the show.

She is back for episode 3

Without distancing. You’d think after you’d just come out of isolation that’s the first thing you’d do, even back then.

Are we sure the reason Bec wasn’t in the first few episodes was due to Richard Wilkins Covid? They mentioned the Irish Mother’s Day which was March 14 and he tested positive on the 15th.

She may have had to self isolate pending result of the test, which was known on 15th.
