Austin

EPISODE 2

SUNDAY 3 AUGUST 7.30PM

Julian and Ingrid are in London pitching a live-action version of Big Bear when they hear an Australian production company wants the show, but only if Ingrid is the creative lead.

Meanwhile, Austin meets with Greta (Claire Lovering), a posh and scarily effective literary agent who’s already planning his TED Talk and merch line.

To sell An Autistic Guide to Britain, Greta needs Austin to find his “British origin story”: a narrative that links him to the country he’s writing about and endears him to its readers.

EPISODE 3

SUNDAY 10 AUGUST 7.30PM

Austin nervously asks Greta to dinner, unsure if it’s a romantic date or a work meeting. Greta accepts. Austin dons a tux. And then learns in real time at the restaurant that she considers it a “meeting- date,” not a “date-date.” He rolls with it. Mostly. Sort of. Not really.

Meanwhile, Ingrid takes a quiet but significant step toward accepting the Big Bear TV deal without Julian. She invites him to dinner to soften the blow, only to discover Austin has booked the same restaurant. What follows is an evening of misread cues and long-distance shouting across tables.

EPISODE 4

SUNDAY 17 AUGUST 7.30PM

With his Australian book launch looming, Austin is under pressure to modernise his image. Greta, armed with a rebrand strategy, asks him to ditch the niche references and memorise a cheat sheet of pop culture touchpoints. Absolutely no mentions of Doctor Who or The Goodies. Austin nods and commits.

Meanwhile, Ingrid begins her first week as showrunner on Big Bear. The perks are promising: double-shot lattes, an ergonomic chair from Finland, and a talented lead actor in Rodger Corser. There’s just one snag – Rodger wants to perform with his face visible through the bear suit.

Julian, still banned from the production but incapable of staying out of it, intervenes.

SUNDAY 24 AUGUST 7.30PM

Austin arrives late to his press conference in sunglasses, with a new “bad boy” persona Greta insists will make him the James Dean of neurodivergent literature.

Meanwhile, Julian and Ingrid are invited for cocktails by Greta. Ingrid reluctantly attends and discovers that the mysterious new Big Bear writer everyone is raving about, Savannah Robbins, is actually Julian.

Elsewhere, Mel’s blossoming relationship with the Foreign Minister hits a snag when she’s subjected to a background check by a stone-faced government official.

EPISODE 6

SUNDAY 31 AUGUST 7.30PM

After Austin cancels his book signing, he announces he’ll appear on a conspiracy-laced podcast hosted by Cobb Harper. Greta is thrilled. Mel, Ingrid, and Julian are horrified. Mel suggests someone step in before Austin implodes and to Julian’s dismay, she doesn’t mean him.

Over at Big Bear, Ingrid is under pressure to cast a new lead. Auditions are still a disaster. Then a last- minute actor arrives in full costume.

He’s soulful, grounded, and nails the scene. Ingrid is moved, he may be the one.

In search of answers, or at least a shortcut, Austin walks into a local bookshop and asks for a guide to love. Odin, the bookseller, declares that love is a lie – but still hands Austin a second-hand copy of Mastering the Romantic Comedy. Austin is inspired.

He reads the book like scripture, diagnosing his “meet- cute” with Haley and plotting their romantic arc with clinical precision. Unfortunately, reality doesn’t follow the genre beats. His earnest message is rejected. Haley still has a boyfriend.

Meanwhile, Ingrid continues bonding with Big Bear. Their rehearsals are full of nuanced movement, shared trail mix, and the rising threat of attraction. Ingrid, confused and exhilarated, begins to suspect she may be falling in love with a man in a bear suit.
