ARN Regional (formerly Grant Broadcasters)

Mate calm down, no need to start name calling. What @Brianc68 is saying is very logical and is most definitely a chance of happening with ARN owning about 15% of SCA.

And enough of this DAB bias please, most people here dislike DAB because everything sounds terrible on it compared to FM, even on streaming the DAB stations are no good, so please stop trying to direct us to listen to insert station here_____ 80s/90s/00s

Exactly thank you.

I think you should calm down buddy, there’s no name calling going on.

So what you’re saying is, just because you don’t like DAB, then those who do should shut the hell up? Sounds like you’re trying to silence opposing views, which is antithetical to a discussion.

I heard Musks X is a good place for bullies to go.

I have been driving to brisbane in my truck and as it has DAB o have been listening… i think its great so much choice, and i think it needs to be rolled out accross austraila… but according ACMA its only if Commercials want to take it up which is sad

While it might not be name calling your responses can be a bit hostile. Telling someone “they’re dreaming” and “never going to happen” is not exactly a friendly exchange of ideas. And calling someone a bully is completely over the top. Also, you might want to reconsider using “mate” and “buddy” in your responses as they come across as condescending.

Point taken, however there is plenty of hostility on this forum, from all sides, and I think some people on here need to grow up and stop bullying those with differing viewpoints , which seems to be a common occurrence on this platform, especially when I give my opinion in support of DAB and the radio industry here.

We are adults , let’s start acting like it.

Following on from recent discussions in the recent Gold Coast Survey forum, I think there are some definite opportunities for ARN Regional regarding some of their provincial markets.

I feel that WaveFM, Hot Tomato & River94.9 (and possibly even Zinc96 & Hot91) need to be treated completely independently. ARN Regional should take the NOVA ENT approach like they’ve done with Star104.5 and go with something completely different simply to remain competitive.

Hot Tomato will hopefully regain its lost ground next survey - otherwise it’ll need some attention.

You cannot simply reposition a station as “Better Music & More Of It” and hope it’ll keep local listeners happy. They will see through it.

WaveFM has a tonne of potential. It is fair enough to leave 94.9 PowerFM to the network log (as its market is not as competitive). However, just like with SCA’s Hit101.3 & Triple M Central Coast, Wollongong radio too deserves better.

I would like to see WaveFM push towards a format similar to Star104.5. Hot Tomato should remain with independent logs to remain competitive & not to sound too much like a mish-mash of Triple M & SeaFM GC. And River94.9… where do we start? When will ARN give the greater Brisbane region a Pure Gold/Classic Hits station again!?

Hot Tomato comp run in conjunction with 7 local news - one of those get the code word off TV then listen to the radio all day.

94.9 PowerFM look to have dropped the blue triangle background from their logo.

The landing page for the network (at powerfm.com.au) still has the triangle though…

That landing page hasn’t been touched since pre-ARN sale.

Well, hopefully someone at ARN will get onto that so there is a consistent look across the various Power FM pages.

River 94.9 today launched a new studio located at the Orion Shopping Complex in Springfield (area just over halfway between Brisbane and Ipswich). Apparently this is an additional part time studio location for some broadcasts and special events.

Massive growth corridor through that area around Springfield and Ripley.

Seems like an OB setup?

doesnt look like a real radio studio with radio mics, USB mixer and laptops

They say everytime you blink, a house is finished in those suburbs. At least what I am told.

That logo is certainly straight out of the 90’s.

Not that the audience is making a choice based on logo design. I like it; a reminder of a better era of radio for Illawarra and the Shoalhaven.

They wouldn’t have set up there if there wasn’t revenue in it. Likely a deal with the landlord or nearby client.

It looks like ARN’s regional PowerFM network have stuck again with local announcers. They were previously sharing announcers across their workday/afternoons, however, according to their websites it looks like they’ve all gone local again.

In other news, Grant has left WaveFM’s workday announcing role. Any idea where he has gone to? He left once before to work at ARN Sydney and then returned to Wollongong.
